Kenai Central's Allie Ostrander hit UNHEARD of times in the Alaska Track scene. A 4:58.21 1600, AND a 10:25.74 in one day? This girl needs to be noticed as Alaska's BEST High School Runner. After all, it's only her first season of track, only a soph.
Actually it was over two days, but very fast times indeed.
I think she needed to be (and was) noticed as Alaska's BEST High School Runner in cross 2012...
very nice to see her run some good times in track as well.
A no show at the state meet. Not injured and did not scratch, leaving other athletes in the cold as far as competing. That should be the coach's responsibility and not cool.

A few words: Talented runners that blow off important competitions in the name of soccer are annoying. Not to mention it's poor etiquette to not show up while failing to scratch, thus depriving an alternate to an opportunity to participate in the event.
You wouldn't think a 5'0, 70 pound little kid (as of her freshman year, maybe she's grown a little/gained some weight since) would be nearly as good of a soccer player as she is a distance runner...
It's really not that impressive at all. A girl I know who's a freshman ran a 10:21 and sub 5 equivalent for 1500. And those times weren't even the fastest. I think the fastest was 9:58 and about 4:50 equivalent.
