Not upscale restaurants just average eating places. Nothing wrong with them doing it but it seems a bit weird.

I don't. Well, maybe more so if they are 40ish kind of guys that probably aren't in school and being a waiter on the side.
Maybe waiting on tables is all the guy needs to make enough money to allow him to run 100 mpw or spend more time with his kids etc... Not everyone lets their job define who they are.
Maybe he's someone who is trying to keep food on the table. Not everyone (except all the posters here) make 100K right out of college.
Do you feel bad for the women? Is it somehow more acceptable for a woman to wait tables than a man?
No I don't feel embarrassed for them at all.
Aren't they all future great actors?
No, they are working.

My sentiments exactly. Acting can be a noble profession.
Do I feel embarrassed for a guy holding down a job? No.
No. It's good honest work. There's nothing weird about it.
The guys I feel embarrassed for are the ones who think they are too special to take jobs they think are beneath them.
Nope, not one bit. They work hard and the good ones provide a great service.
It seems a bit weird that you have these feelings. Get professional help before it festers into a debilitating condition.
I waited tables in college starting around age 20 and really enjoyed it. When I messed around in college - and I was still waiting tables at 24/25 it started to get awkward as friends and former classmates I knew now with good jobs and i was still waiting tables. That prompted me to get serious and finish school.
I'm not sure why we should feel embarrassed for them. Cuz they don't make any money?
i'm embarrassed when i see you out running. i mean, you try SO damn hard, day after day, yet you're LIGHT YEARS from being even sub-elite. i love the effort, but kinda sad really.

Is there a better way?
No.
Thank you, you just made my point! Yes it was in your words, "awkward"
