I don't know if this has already been posted but here is a map of Kenenisa's track.

Looks nice and pleasantly shady.
Cool. I have actually been looking for it on google maps for a while. I thought it was further north.
I also thought it was farther north and closer to Sululta. The resort has a new website and is open for training. Kenenisa says that he will train on the track at least two times a week. Hotel rates should be affordable.
If I'm ever looking for a place to stay outside of Addis, I'm staying at Kenny's place!
i have forwarded the co-ordinates to wada
just in case they don't have it
Looks like an effing awful place to live.

hahaha Only saw the photo after reading this and imagined a completely different setting.
close to 2700m above sea level. The most painful workouts I am sure.

Right now, yea absolutely. Given that Bekele is working to turn it into a resort/vacation type destination though I imagine it will be quite a bit nicer and more attractive in a few years time.

How much does it cost to fly to Ethiopia from the US? And what's the altitude where the resort is? Once I accrue enough vacation time I really want to take a training trip somewhere. Isolate myself, do nothing but eat sleep and run, just for a couple of weeks. I was thinking Colorado or Eugene or something but I might as well go big and take a trip to freaking Ethiopia. This looks like a good environment for that.
And if you don't think I'm serious I assure you I 100% am, this is LetsRun and we're all obsessed so hopefully you believe me
I've checked lots of maps with the gmap pedometer and all were within 1 meter of standard, except this one which it says is 404m.
It depends on what part of the US you live. If you can drive to Washington, D.C. then the plane ticket is between $1,600-$2,500. Ethiopian Airlines has a direct flight from D.C. to Addis Ababa. It is cheapest during August-October to fly to Ethiopia. It is most expensive during December. You will love the people.

Yeah I know I would love the people. I used to live in DC and there was a huge Ethiopian population. Sweethearts, all of them. Such a great culture. So kind and warm and welcoming.
That is a lot of money but by the time I have that much vacation I'll probably also have a lot of money saved up, so this is a real possibility. Everyone is going to think I'm nuts though. Probably even my coach.
i bet ethiopian airlines dont have a great safety record
i'd bring a parachute onboard
I'd recommend going to Haile's place. http://yayavillage.com, it's nicer, has a weight room and only 500m up the road from the track.
Haile is pretty much my all-time favorite runner. And wow these places are awesome. Is there anything like this in the US?
Am I looking at the same pictures as everyone else? My local gym has a nicer weight room; not that Haile uses weights. The trails look like jeeps rolled all over them and the grounds look like a red clay dust bowl.
When will people understand that those guys just roll out the miles day after day. Maybe you should go stay where Rupp and Mo stay as they beat everyone. From OTC pics they train in some of the most beautiful places in the country. Maybe go to the French Alps location that some of the teams use. At least you will see some color.

It doesn't have to be beautiful. If it's too beautiful it will distract me from my running. I'm talking about isolating myself. Nothing but eating, sleeping, and running. An ideal environment to train in for several weeks. Haile's place even provides three meals per day for you as part of the package. Sounds like a pretty good environment to train in.
