I'm 19 and ran all throughout high school. I wasn't sure if I wanted to compete in college but I realized I miss the sport very much and want to run on a college team so I need to look into transferring. I wasn't recruited really at all for running. I ran 15:49 for 5k in October 2011, and 9:26 for 3200m and 4:24 for 1600m as a senior in Spring of 2012 (after dealing with injuries over the winter). Qualified to states in cross country and track but never performed well there because of poor tapering in my opinion.
I continued to run the summer going into college and I ran a 16:15 5k back in November 2012. However, since then I really haven't ran. I finally started back up the first week of April. I've been at 30 miles and am trying to just get the base back. This week I am on pace to hit 40 miles and I am doing the bulk of that at 7:10 pace. For reference, going into my senior year of high school my summer consisted of 55-65 miles a week with double runs and some quality tempos. I can be more specific if needed.
Anyways, I don't know where I am headed running wise for now but with school winding down and summer ahead of me I am looking to get back in shape and possibly find a place to run competitively again as a college sophomore. I suppose my goals would be geared towards some road races, although I'm not sure how quickly I can return to fast performances. I think it would be awesome to run a 15:25-15:50 5k maybe 2-3 months from now but that's probably ambitious. I could look into some 10k's or even half marathons just to try somethign new and get stronger aerobically again. I just know I love running and really miss my high school training and team but I want to find somewhere that I can continue to compete and really see how fast I can be. I know I never reached my potential in high school.
Sorry for the long winded post, would appreciate any advice or input from anyone regarding college running and potential schools I should look at, and also how to get back on track and perhaps how I should tailor my goals and running schedule given the info I've provided.
