Testing his endurance a bit more.
2:13.15 for the first go at it.
He's not going to get away with his piddly mileage and 3 months vacations like he could back when he was running the 800.
Ngeny's doped up record is as good as gone.
"Moving up to the 1k"?? Makes it sound like he's gonna focus on that as an event or something.
Will he do the 800/1k double in Moscow?

Why not? Months of vacation never hurt marathoners. Why would it hurt a guy who is just adding on 200m?
I love Rudisha. It'll be interesting to see if he can get the WR. He's a 400/800 guy, so the step up in distance will be hard on him.
I'm guessing 2:13.9
He'll get the WR if he doesn't start too fast.
Get Matt Schere in on that, bring him through 200m in 25, 400m in 51, and 600m in 1:17, and there's no reason why he can't get the WR.
If he goes out like an his usual 800m where he's low 24 or even 23 high at 200m and sub 50 or 50 point at 400m then he'll blow up.
But with smart pacing and 1:17 at 600m, there is no reason why Rudisha can't pull together a 54 final 400m. The record is his

Yeah, cause the extra 200m is a BIG game changer.

When you're a speed based 800 guy and you're talking world records, yes it is.

ngeny's opening 400m was under 50 seconds. He was on 1:41.xx pace through the first lap! He held on to get the record. He was also running on tired legs as he had run a race a few days earlier. If he had been fresh and had sensible pacing the record would be much, much faster than it currently is.
He'll get the WR and morons will still post on this site that he would struggle to break 4 in the mile.
At peak form I think he could go under 2:11, but at this early in the season I'll go with 2:13.5

I would consider any 800 or 1k WR holder as 'speed based'. Not sure what other category you would put them in.

There are endurance based 800 runners like Symmonds and Kaki who are 800/1500 guys, and there are speed guys like Rudisha and Solomon who are 400/800.
The current world record holder and the previous one for the 1k were endurance based middle distance runners. That's why I don't think it will be as easy as people think for Rudisha to get the 1k WR. That extra 200 is a lot when the 800 is your max distance you train for.

There's no 1000m at Doha; he's running the 800m.
All he said in the interview is that he wants to run a 1000m sometime this year, unclear when. As far as I can tell anyway.
Will be running it at Ostrava. 2:10 is on the radar.

Have you ever raced the 1000m at a moderately high level? I won't claim to be all that good, but I remember running 2:24 for 1k when my 800 was only 1:53 and finishing ahead of or right with guys with 1:49 speed. Those guys would tear me apart at 800m but once they stepped up it was a totally different ball game.
I get that Rudisha is on another planet, but that extra 200m will hurt him more than you'd think. He's a 400m-800m guy, not an 800-1500m guy or even a pure 800m guy (like Kip)
