I think the obvious one is Kevin Sullivan - 1:48 800 and 3:42 1500, I believe he was a triple OFSAA Champion at the Midget and Junior levels in 800/1500/3000. Multiple NCAA Champ and Canadian Champ. Went on to get 5th at the Olympics as well as the WC and ran 3:31 and 3:50 in the 1500 and the mile as well as 13:19 in the 5000 which is certainly a respectable time in it's own right. Also a great cross-country runner. He was top 5 multiple times at the NCAA meet if I'm not mistaken.
A more recent one would be Rob Denault though he wasn't quite at the level of Kevin Sullivan in high school nor his first year of college.. He ran 3:45 in grades 11 and 12 along with a 1:52 in the 800m. He is currently at Villanova, sub 4 mile to his name as well as a 3:42 1500m as a freshman with an 8:13 3000m. Not to mention he has a decent cross-country resumé. I would definitely call him the future of mid distance on the men's side.
Greg Anderson ran 8:00 and 3:47 for the 3000 and 1500 out of high school and I believe sub 14. Didn't do much after high school however. I heard he got terribly hurt in an accident over the summer before he went to Dartmouth and he was never the same.
Yves Sikowabo came on the scene with a bang his grade 11 year as a refugee from Rwanda winning OFSAA XC and the 1500m and 3000m in 2010/2011. He later went on to defend his title in the 1500m and XC however, he would take second to Jeremy Coughler in the 3000m in 2012. High School PBs: 1:52 800m, 2:28 1000m, 3:50 1500m and 8:18 3000m. He went to University of Guelph and so far has run 3:48 in the 1500m as well as 8:17 in the 3000m.
Andrew Heaney was an 800m runner and he ran 1:48 his senior year breaking Kevin Sullivan's record. However he didn't do so well at school in the states. I do believe he's back into running at York University in Toronto.
Alain Boucher still currently holds the 2000m steeplechase record at 5:37 and I do not see that record going down anytime soon. I believe he was a decent 1500m runner as well and he competed at World Youth or World Juniors and did quite well. Don't much of how he did after high school.
Xavier King must be mentioned solely because of his incredible versatility over distances. In 2011 he medal in all three OFSAA senior events other than the 800m. He won the 2000m steeplechase in 5:50, took bronze in the 1500m at 3:55 and took second to Yves Sikowabo in the 3000m at 8:23. He was a consistent medalist at OFSAA Cross-Country as well taking second midget and junior year followed by third and second his two final years. He now attends Abilene Christian University. His PRs are currently 1:56 in the 800m, 3:51 in the 1500m, 5:46 in the 2000m steeplechase and 8:23 in the 3000m. I believe he has also run in the 14:40s for the 5000m out of high school.
Brandon McBride ran 1:46 in the 800m and 46 and change in the 400m out of high school. He took top 8 at world juniors in the 800m and he has even proven to be a decent hurdler boasting an OFSAA gold medal in that event as well. He has won many many OFSAA events and he looks to be our next Gary Reed in many ways. Possibly even our very own David Rudisha.
I would say Nate Brannen deserves to be mentioned as well, sub 4 mile and 1:46 out of high school. Multiple OFSAA Champ over track and cross-country. Two time Olympian and multiple world champion team member. Silver medal at commonwealths and had a rather impressive NCAA career being at the top of mile event on a regular basis. Has 3:34 1500m PB to his name and looks to be capable of improving upon that in the years to come.
From Alberta, Tyler Smith is still in high school however he is graduating this year and he is shaping up to be one of the top high school 800m runners of all time with a 1:47 800m PB. World Junior qualifier and has won multiple indoor races in the states. He'll be going to uVic next year I believe.
Simon Bairu of course was a huge out of high school from Saskatchewan being a multiple national xc champ. Not sure of his times but in college he went on to win NCAA XC for Wisconsin twice and ran 27:23 10000m for the Canadian record in 2010.
Matt Leeder was an incredible talent. Being a multiple OFSAA Champ for xc and track. He ran 3:45 and 8:21 out of high school and went on to run sub 14 and sub 8 in the 3k and 5k in college at Florida State. However, after that he likely quit the sport.
Mo Ahmed was a late bloomer in high school winning the OFSAA XC champs in 2007 by surprise and later went on to win it again and run 30:02 for the 10k as well as 3:53 and 8:19 in the 3000m. So far has had an incredible collegiate career at Wisco running 27:34 in the 10000m and coming 5th and 8th in his final two years of XC. Also made the 2012 Olympics.
These are all mostly recent people and I am from Ontario so I am a bit biased toward Ontario runners. I'm sure I've forgotten many and don't know of many from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Mike Woods. Faster than Sullivan (3:41) in Grade 12 (Sullivan had grade 13) and 7th at world juniors the same year.
Brannen: 1:46, 3:59. 'nuff said.
Great post. Additions are Tom Lobsinger, Don Heughen, Ian Clark, Robbie Sametz, Dennis Stark, Steve Snell, Rob Earl, Kevin Dillon, Roland Brack. Jim Groves, Terry Goodenough, Glen Dupont, Aldo Bartolini, Bob Graham, Rob Livingston etc
Bruce Kidd? Women - Glenda Reiser, Penny Werthner, Abby Hoffman?
Male: Kevin Sullivan. NO Contest.
Female: Jessica Parry ? (now at FSU)
Kathy Butler (ran for England)
reg enq nailed it :
17-18 yr old Canadian Bruce Kidd ran 2Miles in the 8:30s and a 13:17 3 mile in early 60s.
He was Gerry Lindgren just before Gerry Lindgren, without the eccentricities.
Graham Hood
Sorry Yves Xixbakow (or however you spell it) isn't Canadian.

spot on. won '62 Commonwealth 6 mile, bronze in 3 mile at 19.
In June of 1962, Bruce Kidd, then 18,won the Compton Invitational meet 5,000 meters in 13:43.8 upsetting the reigning Olympic Champion, Murray Halberg, and setting Canadian and United States all-comers records.
Bruce Kidd, Ph.D., is now Warden of Hart House at the University of Toronto.
Bruce Kidd with his distinctive low arm carriage.
Let's not forget Marc Oleson. I saw him run an 8:15 3K on an indoor 125M banked track at the age of 16. I believe he was also a multiple OFSAA champion over 1500 and 3000 in consecutive years, he ran a 3:58 mile and had a decent stint at Stanford with a PAC10 XC championship to his name. Also believe he got into the 13;30's in the 5K and likely would have accomplished much more if not for his many injuries throughout college - I think Mike Woods eclipsed his Canadian Junior mile record of 3:58 or perhpas not and Marc still holds that record, forget and too lazy to check...?

Hard to believe that this record (Can.Jnr) is now over 50 years old! Got to be one of the longest - not that many Juniors really tackle the 5000m serously. Then again maybe that is why our Seniors can't go under 13.10!!
How was Ben Johnson in hs? I doubt he doped in hs. Isn't cam Levins from Canada? How was he?
Murray link and jay Cantin.
Murray went to arkansas and was an all American aboot 15 times.
