My wife has had five friends over the past two years get divorced because the husbands cheated. All five of the women were in their 30s, college educated with professional careers (R.N., teacher, marketing, etc.), attractive and fit. We're not talking about wives who let themselves go. Yet all five of the husbands cheated with a younger, non-college educated woman in their 20s, usually an office assistant other young co-worker. Now in my experience, I've never had a naked woman at work accidentally fall onto my schlong, so there has to be some effort on behalf of these guys to cheat.
What I don't get is the cost/benefit analysis of the decision to cheat on an attractive and fit woman who you have been married to for at least 10 years and have kids with. Is scoring some 23-yr old tail worth the shame of divorce, the financial distress, and having to tell your kids that you are a cheating a-hole? Do these 40-year old guys really think they'll do better on the dating scene than what they had at home?
I've been a college professor for 10 years and I've never been tempted by any of the 18-20 year olds in my classes. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being surrounded by college-aged girls every day. To paraphrase Wooderson, "That's what I love about these (college) girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age.", but I'd like to think that if I ever walked into my office and found a hot, 19-year old sprawled naked on my desk that I could turn it down.
I'll grant that maybe some of these guys were getting the post-nuptial shutoff, but all five? That seems doubtful, especially considering these women are all attractive and work out (most are runners).
