this is often what pushes these people towards radicalism - lack of financial security/professional success.
Mohammed Atta was a straight A student in Germany, and could not get a job in Egypt.

Huh. And here I thought it was Islam that pushed these psychopaths towards radicalism. I guess you've studied Christians; buddists, Hindus and more and found the strongest correlation is a lack of cable tv?
Oh. the poor little brothers didn't have a choice.
The point is, "what pushes a person in this direction" not, "what sort of radicalism is available". Most christian radicalism is not violent. Some hindu radicals are violent. Etc.
If you are marginalized due to lack of professional/personal success, and you are a reasonably observant muslim, you fall into a pool that can be radicalized. If you are a Xtian in similar circumstances, the odds of being radicalized is much smaller.
You could say that wahhabhist/Salafist islam is radical, and violent. So when a young man sees whole countries engaged in cruel violence in the name of being, "holy", it is easy think, "killing more of the people who are the problem is a good thing. They think so in Saudi".
While the violent margins of most religions are ridiculed and monitored, they are much more in the mainstream in Islam. Most people (muslims included) prefer the open societies of the Western world. It is if/when they fail in these societies that they begin to think, "The radical/violent ways are the best", an option that is not really available to a washout Christian.
