a bunch of guys that are too built up to ever actually have an efficient running economy.
I think Edward Norton would have made a good Bruce Denton.
Ask Ryan Gosling to get skinny like from Remember the Titans. Thatd be a decent choice.
-and I would pay good money to see the scene where Cassidy's heart beat is shaking the bed. I have not had a good laugh in a while....
They'd likely have to change the story quite a bit, like add a character for him to be secluded with. That's the only way he could discuss what was going on in his head while doing the crazy training in the woods.
Gossling is a good choice, but his running form would need some serious work. He looked like a weirdo in that one scene in Remember the Titans where he is running toward the riot at the beginning of the movie. (I just saw it on TV last week)
Clay Aiken plays Cassidy.
Have you all seen this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk-cXFgna-A
Cassidy? Luke Puskedra
Bruce? Chris Derrick
Mizner? Dorian Ulrey
Andrea? Lisa Uhl
Doobey? Adam Nelson
Walton? Nick Willis
Correction:
Denton - Matt Tegenkamp
everyone mentioned so far is too old.
Eminem plays Cassidy.
Johnny Knoxville play Bruce Denton.
Justin Bieber plays Jerry Mizner.
Nick Willis plays John Walton.
Sarah Silverman plays Andrea.
Clint Eastwood plays Dick Dobbey.

Just give it a good narrator - I am picturing something sort of Shawshank Redemption style where you switch between actors talking and interacting and a narrator telling the story as he is looking back on it. This way all the emotional bits and craziness could be conveyed without adding a character. I don't know who would make a good narrator/runner crossover though - it might have to be separate people.
It'd have to be different people. The narrator would be an older Quenton. Like, 1980 Quenton talking about 1970 Quenton. However, a significantly older Quenton would work better because it would give a nice feeling of the time separation. Like, and older man recollecting his youth. Not a young man talking about a couple years ago.
Follow the formula of the better basketball movies (Hoosiers, You Got Game). Use real runners for the runners, but make the coach a top level actor.
In OAR, change the plot a little and make Denton a top runner from the 70s, coaching a Quentin of today (not far off from Salazar/Rupp). Then, you make Rupp Quentin, and then make Denton an older actor that could pass as a runner. I always thought Mark Harmon, while not a great actor, could fit that role.
I would only watch if Gwyneth Paltrow was in it
Rupp acting? Yikes
why isnt this on kickstarter already?
It doesn't have to be Rupp, the basketball players in Hoosiers were for the most part not D-1 players. That being said, to be real, the runners have to be people who looks and acts like a runner, they have to be runners. On the coach, we could cast Brad Pitt as Denton, didn't he play a runner once...

Casting call for college age runners, and then narrow them down to the ones who can act and also look the part. They don't have to be fast, since it's not like the mile would be a single take, they'd just have to have passable form for 20m at a time at what a fast enough pace that it looks convincing enough to pass as 4:00 pace. This would almost certainly work better than grabbing a bunch of elite runners who most likely have no idea how to act. You want Miracle, not Space Jam. Plus Rupp doesn't have the name and face recognition among the general public that Jordan had, so he wouldn't be able to carry the movie the way pro basketball players do (try to?) anyway. And I agree on getting a better known actor to play Denton, even if that means making him a little older than he was in the book (How old was he in the book? I can't remember). My vote is to throw a bone to running movie fans and make it Billy Crudup. Andrea doesn't have to be a runner, she's gimpy in the book anyway, just someone who looks like they might run casually. Make it Natalie Portman.
Jager would be Cassidy. He's tall and runs about as fast.
