Back to back 4th place finishes, but no shoe contract? And he's likened by Letsrun to a co-worker who just does his job admirably? Come on, show the guy some respect!

He should continue and try to make the Rio team.
He can be the Brian Sell of Rio if he plays his cards right, given all the injuries in the Hall, Ritz, Abdi, Meb camps of late.
If you are keeping track, he has my respect.
I believe he is now tied with Ryan Hall for two 4th place finishes in the WMM.

I give the guy respect. I think a lot of short and lightweight runners around here see his ability and try not to think about how mind blowing it is for someone his size. He trained for this course and it showed when he casually strolled into the finish without a lick of a painful look on his face. I hope he doesn't fade away from this point on. He said he takes it one race, one day at a time. Hartmann!
The other guys are trying to push the envelope because they know 2:11 won't get them any international recognition and injuries are often the result.
I don't envy Hartmann...his talent puts him in no man's land
Yeah, being a 211-215 marathoner these days has to be the worst.
You are just close enough to be big time, but still too far off to get a major win or major deal.

While it's true that Hall has two WMM fourth place finishes, he also has a third place (Boston 2009) and a fifth (London 2008).
Never the less, a great run by Hartmann and he does deserve more recognition than he's likely going to get.

4th in this field is better than last year IMO. Also his time is impressive given the headwind and slow start.
And speaking of respect, what about Rob MF Watson who started pushing the pace at 14 miles. Couldn't close like Hartman, but still hung on for a respectable 11th.

I posted virtually the same message on reddit.com/r/running today. The guy's a consistent beast and somebody ought to sign him and write him a check.

Can any other high school boast of a better pair than Hartmann-Ritzenhein at Rockford high when Ritz was a soph?
Eventual 12:56 5000 and 2:11 at Boston?
That's a pretty damn good 1-2.
He is americas top male marathoner to date for 2013.
Nobody else is racing until the fall , so he may end up holding top american through October.
Who is on world champs team ?

And please don't forget his 4th place in NYC in 2009. I really think, Jason Hartmann deserverves huge respect!! But until now he's no Ryan Hall. Back in 2007/2008 it seemed like Hall might be a world beater, as he debuted with 2:08:24, crushed the field at the trials running 14:28 from 30 - 35 K and a 2:06:17 with a first 5 K in 14:21 in London in 2008. Hall was (is?) on another Level...
59:43, 2:04:58 (or 2:06:17), Trials-Champion in 2:09:02, 10th at the Olympics, multiple American Records/bests... That tells you everything you need to know.
But still Hartmann deserves much respect - he's underrated.
The things Jason Hartmann does continously just keep me amazed with this sport. Many must remember he was High School Teammates with Ritz. Jason is your hardworking never give up runner. We must all take pride in a young man who is willing to push and push and push without immediate finicial reward from sponsors. Jason is a true role model for runners who just absolutely love this sport.

I'm sure that will make all the difference to Mr. Hartmann.
And he was actually pushing the pace for the first 5 mi
So, he's got that going for him....which is nice.
Hartmann needs to race more often - from a sponsorship standpoint. In the last year he's run Boston, a half, and Boston.
From a sponsorship standpoint, only appearing a two or three big events per year isn't a lot of exposure.
He deserves respect because he delivered on race day. I only care of finish placings. It's a race, not a time trial.
To run what he did in Boston in 2012 in the heat is AMAZING. I'm tired of people nut hugging Ritz/Hall/Kara/Flahagan ...
I thought it's a PERFORMANCE based sport?
You guys should all be worshiping Meb. He actually WON something. A WMM, and Olympic Marathons and 4th in Beijing .... what the hell is he supposed to do to get real respect?
Ritz/Hall/Kara/Flahagan are NOTHING compared to what Meb has done.
End of Story.
