Are they testing for a new drug at Boston this year that all the top American men are taking? Serious question.

I'd rather watch a pro run through a sufferfest 2:13 with some HEART than not run at all. it's not like he was going to win or set a world record, anyway...
I can understand that question. That was my first thought as soon as I saw the thread as well.
this is really suspect. abdi doesn't miss a pay day.
I don't understand dropping out 5-6 days before the race? Why wouldn't you wait and see?
Bunch of pansies.
I'm out too. Chalk up another American not lining up.

This was my thought too. He's at a point in his career where he doesn't have that many pay day's left. If he truly was just "ill", it seems like he would show up, collect his check, start the race and drop.
I don't know if I'm ready to jump on the drug conspiracy, but there's definitely more to this story.
Abdi is runnin' dirty, obviously.
Abdi doesn't like the rain!

While Boston may be one of the World Marathon Majors, they certainly have the weakest field of the 6 races. This wasn't always the case, but this year they have really blown it. If you look at the field at last week's Paris marathon or at the upcoming Prague marathon (men and women), they look star packed compared to Boston. It's really disappointing to see such an iconic race as Boston to have such a relatively week field. Sure, there are some really great athletes in Boston, but nothing in terms of depth compared to London, etc.
Looks like it is up to the American women now. Go Ladies Go!!

hahaha.
Everyone knows that tall, white and unknown marathoner is out for blood this year as he said he's making it a personal decision to beat all the other Americans; he's been training like a wildebeest.
He says he has the flu. People do in fact catch the flu.

What does he have to gain by dropping out now though? Why not just rest up and see if he's feeling better by Monday? Its totally possible for him to be recovered and 100% by 5 days from now.
rather than waste the training he should get better and run prague on may 12th or san diego in early june.
even if the flu forces him to miss 2 weeks, when he gets better he will still have the base from his boston preparations, and he may even surprise himself remember the ZATOPEK EFFECT.
dougie,
Did he utilize his fitness by jumping into something else after NY? ABDI is done and just collecting appearance dollars.
abdi didnt, but a few of our runners got into fukuoka rather than let the training go to waste.
Abdi needs to schedule an appointment with Dr. Brown. He'll get his thyroid fixed in no time.

If that actually happened, you guys would all be talking about how much he SUCKED and how he is an example of how American distance running SUCKS right now. Nothing these guys do is ever enough for the critics on LRC. (Except Cam Levins)
