faster than Leo Manzano, thats for sure
Probably 10-20 seconds slower than he could have.
17:12
~14:00
He ran 13:58 in a tt about 2yrs ago.
I figured he could run at least 15:00 as a workout if he were to do 5 x 800 in 2 flat with a 60 second 200 jog.
I think Nick Symmonds is fast!

He's run 1:42 for 800 and could easily run sub 4 for the mile if he target trained for it. No big surprise, at least to me, that he's capable of sub 14 for 5000.
What do you mean "if he target trained for it."? He already crushes sub-4 miles/1500 equivalents.

Interesting to thing about.
with a bit of focus on it (using Seb's 5000m sessions), low
13, I reckon.
i'd reckon he could run 15:41 on the roads...
nick has fantastic 1500 potential
he has a 1'42.95, but he ran that virtually solo at the back with no drafting until homestretch ( not much here )
he couda been in mid-1'42 shape
i'll offer him 1'42.5 - 1'42.75 for that
he ran 47.45 whilst in heavy training with a standing start from lane 1 on a cold dublin day - probably 46.75 - 47.0 at peak, when rested
his potential 1500 is inceredible
46.75 with
1'42.75 ->
2'12.2
3'28.4
7'31.5
13'15.1
1'42.50 ->
2'11.8
3'27.5
7'28.8
13'09.4
47.00 with
1'42.75 ->
2'12.0
3'27.6
7'27.9
13'06.8
1'42.50 ->
2'11.6
3'26.7
7'25.2
13'01.1
( this last line looks an awful lot like maloofi in his gold winning 1500 form )
forget 3k/5k as that's out of his range, but i do think nick coud approach the 1st set of estimates
if he switched fully to 1500, he woud likely lose some 800 speed, but gain lot of endurance
he shoud/woud be looking at 3'30 eventually
'he shoud/woud be looking at 3'30 eventually'
Is that on a course measured by the IAAF
I am glad to see your 5000m prediction is in line with mine.
Keep up the good work.
People are overestimating his distance capability. He is like Leo in the sense that he gets worse as the distance goes up. Don't expect anything much better than 14 flat.

I would have to agree, especially with his build. No way he's going to run sub 13:30 without a lot of changes in his training and physique. Clearly though he's capable of 14 range.

Sure his 800/1500 equate to fast times, but his stride is simply too choppy and his build is not suited to run anything close to what your calculator shows. You probably think he could run a 2:09 marathon as well.
Maybe you missed the part where Vent said to ignore the 5k time because he considers it "out of his range"
So basically he has not answered the question
Symmonds was at his absolute limit when running 1:42.9. He is a specialist 800 runner who has run plenty of circuit 800s and has never run close to what he did on that super fast London track. He won't run any faster over 800, especially as he's around 29 now.
He will never run 3:30. The suggestion he could run 3:26 - 3:28 is simply fantasy. The calculator is seriously flawed if it predicts such times.
Makhloufi's run in London based on his split times does not indicate 3:26 form either.
his stride/gait is horrible for a 5k and up. not to mention his build. no time of note
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has a 1989 Ferrari 348 GTB and he's just put in paperwork to upgrade it
