The adidas Energy Boost is the real deal. I was able to get a pair at my local running shop. From what I understand, only a relatively few amount of stores received this shoe on 2/27. I was excited to try the boost on and see how it compares to some of my favorites - Asics 2000, Brooks Adrenaline. I knew that the Energy Boost was considered "neutral" so I wasnt sure if I could handle running in them. My training includes about 8-9 runs/week, 1 workout/1 long run day and usually 80-90 mpw.
At first glance, they look a bit unfinished in the midsole but I learned that instead of using EVA foam, adidas uses "TPU" pellets, which they heat steam and fuse together to create the midsole. I was told my first mile to my last mile will feel the same! After hoping on the treadmill and running for a bit, I was shocked at how it felt - light weight, responsive and great cushioning. Again, even though I usually wear a stability shoe, it felt like it was stable anyways. I'm pretty efficient and not very injury prone so I can get away with it. adidas has never been my favorite running shoe brand but I decided to purchase a pair and see if the claims were true. I was only running my afternoon (35 mins) runs in them to start but actually have worked up to wearing them comfortably for my long runs (16-20 miles). They have about 350-400 miles on them now and feel great!
I understand a stability version of the boost will come out this summer and more of a racing flat version will follow in the fall. I can't wait to get my feet on those and try them out!
PROS
-Light weight
-Responsive yet cushioned (but not in a mushy type of way)
-the upper is awesome - its a tech fit upper and is seamless
-after 350-400 miles, they still feel great
-Great initial feel and it feels the same now
CONS
-Price is a bit high but every brand has a "top of the line" shoe/price
-Upper is a snug fit for some but for me it was great
-I wish the "boost" material was a different color
Overall, I'm impressed with this shoe and technology. Great everyday training but also light enough for tempos or workouts if you wanted. I heard that this material will go into the more popular adidas shoes next year. I'm looking forward to those!
