So I was reading Once a Runner for the some-double-digit-th time, and I started wondering: has anyone ever actually done the famous Interval Workout as it's described in the book? Not necessarily in 62-63, but at their equivalent pace? Heck, would it even be possible to do the book's workout, assuming buckets of talent and a "run till I die" mentality?
However, if you have ever done 60x400, I'd love to hear about the experience. What it was like, how long it took you, etc etc.
Its funny you mention that, because I was just listening to that chapter int he book on my way home this afternoon in the car. I did something similar once when I was in college. I did 43 400s @ 66-68 on a 1 minute jog. We started with 20+ guys and the idea was for it to be a competition to see who could do the most. Two of us finished together and our coach finally made us settle for a tie. Afterward, I sat down and could barely get back up to cool down. It was pretty epic at the time, but I badly injured my ITB and ended up missing 3 months so it definitely wasn't worth it.
In the book, QC and Denton are just running for 63 effort so they don't have a watch on it. On the last few, QC says he fell way off the pace, but its hard to know how fast he was running earlier without a watch on it. Either way, obviously a brutal workout. I'm sure some elites have done similar stuff, but most are smart enough not to risk an injury with that much volume at a fast pace.
