World XC: Cam Levins vs. Chris Derrick

the question is whether Derrick can get lapped and still win?

Typical bias for the American athlete here, Cam Levins will crush every member of Jerry's group over the next year from 3000 to 10000m. The exception being Lopez Lomong, who will probably be barely ahead or very close behind in the 3-5k distance. Cam will run sub 13 in the next 1-2 yrs no doubt and his mental strength is a level beyond most american distance runners.

Oh ya, back to World Cross-Country, he will be the top non-african this year for sure. Derrick is running great, but put him in Southern Utah and see how well he could progress. Not many athletes outside maybe Lagat could do as well as Cam training solo in North America right now.

How does one gauge mental strength? You read a message board post about him running 600 mile weeks and you came to the conclusion he is mentally tougher than most American runners?

If Derrick is even within 10 spots behind Levins at World Cross-Country I would be very surprised. Levins coming out party internationally is about to happen very soon. The bandwagon train is rolling and you better get on for the ride!!

Is that the same Craig Forys who ran 8:52 at Milrose in the 2-mile, while Levins was running 8:14, after he freshened up for a day or so? Just checking.

That's a tough one. I think Derrick has improved substantially since getting his doors blown off by Levins at NCAAs in June. Yet, if it is close at the end, I the odds are it will be, I think Levins is still a stronger finisher. Therefore, I pick Levins.

Collis Birmingham will be in the mix with the whiteys as well.

Levins lost the Canadian cross country championships. Derrick won the U.S. title, beating Ritz and Teg in the process. Derrick will win. Also, Levins ran 8:14, not 8:13.

fyi, forys ran 8:41 in HS. he's way better than his millrose performance. you've never had a bad race before? just checking.

Beating Ritz and Teg is nothing to be so proud of. They aren't very good anymore. Who did Levine lose Canadian xc to? Is that person better or worse than the current shape Ritz and Teg are in?
