I saw the results at the Husky Classic that happened yesterday. I have to admit I was a little suprised with Jock's result in the mile: 4:14 for 60th place (not counting the invite divison). Wouldn't you think 2:02 halfs would feel like a jog for him much less 2:07s? |

I watched the race. He was with the leaders then disappeared. I guess he wasn't as fit as he thought he was and then gave up. |

probably more a 400/800 type, but still i would expect a 4:05 at worst |

Winter is the "hiatus" in So Cal. Jock is having it easy now. T&F doesn't start for another 5 weeks. |

I wouldn't be surprised if that is a mile PB for Charles Jock. The guy does not do a lot of overdistance. |

He ran a 3:53 1500m I think last year and then won NCAA's in the 800m. 3:53 is approximately on par with a 4:14 mile especially indoor. The man only runs 30 miles per week so he's definitely more suited for shorter stuff; he's made jokes to Cam Levins on twitter about how Cam does more mileage in one day than Jock does in a week |

I'm waiting for Jock to realize that opening every 800m in 49 mid is a recipe for disaster. |

You got that right... Or do you? |

When Rudisha opens up in 49 point that's called slightly up-tempo ... when Jock does it it's called suicide. And poor Johnny Gray, as much as I respect his flat out excellence and longevity, would have found more success if he had just laid off the accelerator a tad, imho. |

Jock ran 3:49 last year at Ben Brown last year. so 4:06ish in the mile. |

I don't think that time means much at all. What is Rudisha's 1500 pb? Does he even have one? Remember Andrews ran 4:11 earlier this year and then came back to set an AR not long after. |

How much are we talking? Seriously, 30 mpw? |

I think there is a Flotrack video where his coach talks about the training he does. Had a quick look there and couldn't find it though. Maybe I'm thinking about someone else completely. But IIRC the coach basically says he's a genetic freak and runs fast on crazy low mileage. |

Just missed the 1000 AR, but yeah, a bad mile isn't the end of the world for 800 guys. |

Yeah, sure doesn't work out for that Rudisha guy. |

maybe Alan Webb should try it too then. herpderp |

I don't think going out with Rudisha is the smartest race tactic. He is a 1:40 guy not a 1:44 guy. |

Just think if Jock trained hard. He could challenge Rudisha. |

What about Palestine or Navy SEALs or Tom Cruise? |

Charles has never even come close to doing the type of training required to run a fast mile. It should have been ill-advised for him to jump into an indoor mile likw that. For winter time overdistance work he should stick to 5k road races to get some strength work in. Jock is a stud, though. He will be back. |
