Feb. 7, 2013 Due to the inclement weather that is expected in Boston this weekend, the Valentine Invitational that was scheduled to be held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 8-9) at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center has been cancelled. The BU track and field teams will next be in action on Feb. 17 at the USATF New England Open Championships in Cambridge, Mass. http://www.goterriers.com/sports/m-track/spec-rel/020713aaa.html |

The Lafayette Rider Winter Games will now begin on Friday at 11 am at The Armory instead of 1 pm. The cancellation of the BU Valentine's Classic in Boston has created demand for more teams and athletes to compete and organizers are working to accommodate the requests. More to come. http://www.armorytrack.com/News/Post/winter-games-expansion |

This sucks especially for the Canadians going down who are all on their last chances to hit CIS standards. People base their season around this and now it may be too late to get in any other races. Super disappointing. |

Are you trying to make a bad joke? BU blows their track out of the water. |

Are you trying to make a bad joke? BU blows their track out of the water.[/quote] Even if you are right, their track is available and BU's isn't. so the guy is right, go to Grand Valley or don't race. |
| it's just not right. Do right. |

Why wouldn't the organizers keep the meet on and just suggest to travelers to consider not coming if they were worried about conditions. There would still be enough athletes willing to make the trip to make the meet worthwhile... Aren't many of the participating schools pretty much next-door to BU anyways?! |

It could have been a giant slumber party, how many folks could squeeze onto a pole vault or high jump pit? A missed opportunity. |

Umm... its women on Friday and all dudes on Saturday. That might make for an odd slumber party but I guess I shouldn't make any assumptions about what you do with your teammates...

Yea, check the forecast knucklehead, the worst of it will be Friday night into Sat. am, those are the folks that wouldn't have gotten out. Friday night would have been the night. |

Taking a look at the weather forecast, They are making a good call here We have the following: - an Alberta Clipper (coming from the NW Rockies) coming into Ontario - a Texas Low front coming into southern ontario as well These two are going to create problems in southern ontario and northern ohio and NW NYS overnight tonight. I noticed winds coming from the east as I was running today, but the system was coming from the west. Another look at the weather forecast has a Nor'easter coming into the Atlantic Coast coming soon. What this will do is whatever is hitting the southern great lakes tonight will get sucked right into the nor'easter and this storm is going to be massive tomorrow night. |

I do feel for the east coast schools that are going to get hit hard with this storm, but the Ontario schools have a fairly decent meet in Windsor that was originally set up to be their time trial attempt at standards. |

The whole city is closed, state of emergency, beginning 12:00noon on Friday. There is no way this meet could be held. Sure is too bad though. |

People: Unless you live here - shut up! The mayor of Boston has put a ban on all autos, and parking will not be available on any side streets with possible 30+ inches of snow. He has closed the city until after the storm. The Governor has basically closed everything down. He told motorists to stay off the roads after 4:00 today. He closed all state work, schools, offices, etc. They are not going to begin plowing until after the snow begins to let up, and then they have to deal with high winds (30-45 mph) during the storm. If you live here you have to make sure you don't do anything that will cause you trouble int he future. BU has to live with the City of Boston. Don't piss off the government since it will come back to haunt you. BU did the right thing. If you think the college athletes are upset, what about the entire H.S. track community that had major meets this weekend. Now some kids will not qualify for their respective state meets. |
