What kind of cars do elite runners drive?

Most elites = poor. Hand-me-down sedans from parents or Ford Probe.

Fast cars for fast runners, duh.

In the 70s they drove MGs

I recall reading that HG drives (or at least owns and has other people drive) Mercedes Benz's.

Bill Rodgers didn't have a car. Then his bike was stolen. He ran everywhere. Many Kenyan elites have no car (until they win Boston). Are you beginning to see the pattern?

Oh yeah. Ryan drives a Nissan, the official vehicle of the Boston Marathon.

Galen Rupp has a Bentley.

I know Webb had (has?) a Mercedes E55 AMG

Ron Clarke had Mercedeses. Steve Moneghetti does too. DeCastella has or had an Alfa Romeo. I used to see a Geo Metro in Steve Jones' driveway some years back. Gerry Lindgren was driving an old Mercedes some years back when Runner's World did an article about him.

I recall a workout video where Meb was driving an Infinity g37.

When I was in Mammoth a year ago, Meb had an Infinity G sedan & a Toyota Sequoia SUV. Amy Hastings drove a Subaru Impreza Sport. Deena & Andrew had an SUV (forgot which one), as did Allistar Craig.

Most seemed to drive cars that were functional for the environment they were in, as opposed to something fancy, expensive and flashy. I would bet (just as a hunch) that most elite runners are like that. This isn't the NBA after all. :)

Sileshi and T. Dibaba had a Toyota Land Cruiser, which looks like a Rolls Royce compared to the other cars you see on the streets of Addis.

I also got a lift once from Negari Terfa, a 2:07 marathon guy in his early 80s Toyota Corolla.

i have it on good faith that webby drives a volvo and centrowitz a toyota corolla, evan jager drives a volkswagon buggie, while ritzenhein rides in a bmw with rims and 34" chrome. lagat, lomong, and the bekele brothers all ride in a specially designed ride similar to the flinstones car so they can add on extra miles, and solinsky drives a stretch hummer. clearly overcompensating for something. rupp? he doesnt have a car, he just rides around in the "big wheel" uncle alberto bought him for winning silver in the olympics.
