I've heard that basically all of the northeast d3 heavy hitters in the DMR (tufts, bates, midd, MIT, haverford, bowdoin to name a few) as well as some local D2s like UMass Lowell, Stonehill, maybe AIC will be heading down there. should be a cool race, will say a lot about whether or not the indexing for banked tracks is legit. who's the favorite in that crew?
Coming from New England, MIT Bates and Tufts are early favorites I'd imagine at this point. Tufts has the 4:10 miler in whatever his name is, along with Marvel in the 8 (or maybe 12 this year) and all around depth. Havent seen much depth from Bates this year but they graduated no one from their 3rd place team from last winter so they could develop in the next few weeks. MIT looks perhaps the strongest at this point in the season. Bullock ran a very solid 3k earlier in December and ran a strong mile a couple weeks ago. but lets be honest Kyle Hannan is anything but intimidating when anything is on the line so i dont see them performing well at nationals. Midd looks strong but missing Shmidty will definitely hurt their chances. Bowdoin has Horowitz so they're always a threat. Also You should look out for Colby this year, I think its their time
Should be an exciting race to say the least!
Sorry, I had the wrong date. It's on That Friday the 8th.
so, with Friday approaching, who's gonna shine and who's gonna crash and burn?
bump
Per the DIII NE thread, I'm bullish on Bates going 1-2 or 1-3 in the DMR. Could look something like this:
Bates A: LePage - Waiman - McCauley - Hannan
Bates B: Barron - Levy - ???? - Stansel
To reiterate, if they had a healthy Graboys they could basically make a "B team" with 3/4 of their relay from last year.
Who is gonna be on Bowdoin's? Will Horowitz just run all 4 legs, or will he have somebody take the 400 for him?
no bowdoin entered. bates has some solid depth, but noone gives a shit if you have a bunch of 4:13-4:17 guys. haverford looks to be the class of the field with 4:10 4:07 on either end, tufts should be solid, some of the dII schools will contend for the win (umass lowell and AIC). will kyle hannan run 4:09 or 4:39?
Entries are up? Where?
Will this event even take place with over a foot of snow slamming the New England area on Friday? Could be tough for teams to even arrive @ Tufts if weather holds true. Hope not as there will be some stud DMR teams @ Tufts, I guess time will tell.

Forgive the double post here, and I hate to be a cheer leader for Bates, but your statement that "no one gives a shit if you have a bunch of 4:13-4:17 guys" merits a response. Of course people should give a shit if you have a bunch of 4:13-4:17 guys! Especially when those guys include a 5th place XC finisher, two veterans of last year's 3rd placing DMR, and a 1:51 800m guy. Mostly, though, I'm just pissed that you blew off Bates and then say "tufts should be solid." Tufts should always be solid, but they're pretty much consummate choke artists.
fair point that tufts drops the ball every chance they get, but they've shown more this year than bates has, i'll take 4:10 and a pair of 1:53s over 4:13/1:55, though lepage should run with/beat marvel in the 1200, I think tufts looks stronger on the back end. marvel has been consistent in the past, dont know anything about the other two guys.
and i heard that bowdoin was focusing on individuals this yr and werent coming but I could be mistaken. according to directathletics entries close tonight so we'll find out in the next day or so

You're correct that Tufts has had better individual performances than Bates. Norton, Black and Marvel's times are obviously faster than anything LePage, Stansel, Hannan, or anybody else has put forth this season. That being said, none of those guys have the range that the Bates guys have. I don't know much about Black, but I can't find any evidence that he'd hold up in an event longer than 800m. Marvel's got a pretty fast 1500 PR, but he doesn't seem to have run it much and his one mile of this season isn't very encouraging. Finally, Norton's 4:10 mile is pretty fast, as is his 3k, but his next best mile is a 4:18. With the exception of Marvel, most of those guys have one or two performances of note and that's it. Unless they PR or come very close to it, I think Bates certainly has the edge over them.
Hannan entered in the 3k at Valentines.
Is this thread about the "Cupid Challenge" listed on their schedule? What kind of meet is this with BU the same weekend?
that is fair, I didn't mean to write off bates in my OP, just don't think they will necessarily be contending ftw, but they will certainly be a solid squad, and tufts could be too though they are less flexible.
haverford is gonna blow them both off the track anyway lol.
and yes, this is about the tufts meet, i dont think anything else significant is happening other than this friday night dmr (anything else on friday going on?). there are rumblings of some guys going for the 5k there too to avoid the banked track BS conversions (the point of the DMR). we'll see who's entered.
We were taking a women's team up but now seems like snow will interfere with travel. Any other teams impacted yet?

Yes, the meet is very competitive this year because of the recently changed banked track conversions for D3
No team even has a remote chance at winning if Bowdoin has Sullivan anchoring. I heard he is getting ready for a sub 4 mile attempt soon, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him split sub 4 as the anchor leg of the DMR.
Performance list anywhere? Interested to see how the DMR and events stack up with the BU cancellations..
