the woman in 17th place is interesting, annemarie sandell hyvairnen in 1996 as a junior she ran 8:48 for 3000, 14:56 for 5000 and 31:40 for 10000, she never bettered her junior times, she is now age 36.
1:13 off world record pace, even in the humidity.
Steady sub 3-kilometers still.
29km split is EXACTLY THE SAME AS LAST YEAR.
KM 25 * 01:14:04 00:02:56
KM 26 01:17:00 00:02:56
KM 27 01:19:52 00:02:53
KM 28 01:22:51 00:02:59
KM 29 01:25:49 00:02:58
KM 30 * 01:28:47 00:02:59
KM 31 01:31:46 00:02:59
Weather 1 hr in is still great.
55°F 94% humidity. 3 mph wind.
3 guys falling off.
Two off the back of the lead pack now.
Negesse Shumi Endeshaw up there...
KM 32 01:34:42 00:02:56
Sub 2:05 if they can hold about 2:58/K for the rest of the way... can they do it?
Negesse, Shiferaw and others up front.

The Dubai marathon has gained a strange air about it in the last couple of years. These guys with little experience/slow PRs are all running a very fast pace. It's absurd
It's true. I found the times suspicious last year.
But look at the course. Perfectly, perfectly flat, flawless road conditions, almost no turns (aside from that one hairpin). I think there's no question the course is faster than Berlin, Frankfurt, Rotterdam et al.
Woah! 2:50 last k.
I love how British announcers pronounce the name of this distance: "marath'n," with the emphasis on the first syllable. I also like their pronunciation of a time never run before: a "world reck-oaaaaaaaaaaaard!" with the second syllable comically drawn out.
About 7 men left in the lead group it appears. Shiferaw leading.
KM 33 01:37:31 00:02:50
KM 34 01:40:35 00:03:04
Shiferaw, Negesse, Kipkemboi, others...
Tadese Tola off the back now.
and they're dropping like flies

Course is definitely Rupp Certified.
Could we see 7 2:04s? I doubt it but 7 are still in lead pack at 34km. Crazy.
The guy leading seems to be: Negesse.
Tola now off bakc. 6 left.
Everything in WR range has been between 40 and 50 F. Considering this plus the humidity, 2:04:xx will be superb. And then you factor in the uneven pacing and it's quite a performance.
Was anyone noteworthy running the 10k?
