Well, whatever you do, please DO NOT give Lance access to an automatic weapon (I mean, seeing that he is a white male psycopath and all).

How is it possible that he is a psychopath and is only now showing signs of destructive behavior in his life?

Talk to his wife, children and ex-gfs and then get back to us. He probably has been an aggressive bully his entire life.

Which problem is it because I am at a total loss here and all my hopes are crushed and I have no clue what to do anymore. We have lots of wild guesses - narcissism, straight a*shole, aspie, sociopath, undetermined...
And does he even want to get help?
I don't feel any urgency to grill him or ask him any questions. I only want to get to a better place.
I suspect you are trolling now with the reference to all your hopes being crushed. And I've never seen anybody suggest Asperger's for Lance. His behavior is characteristic in some ways of a personality disorder (which include subtypes for antisocial [sociopath] and narcissistic, but these frequent overlap. Whether he has a diagnosable condition or not, I have no idea. Medication is generally of very little or no help in personality disorders. Talk therapy can help sometimes or can be counterproductive.

He is not a psychopath. Well, it is possible he is, but the things we know about him don't suggest that.
My hopes are crushed.
And I don't understand why life would put us in the same place if we weren't supposed to serve some purpose. I had plans to be in this specific city, that isn't even that big, a year ago. Everyone knew it.
We might as well be 3,000 miles apart. Is going to talk therapy even a possibility?
Lance:
An obvious self-focus in interpersonal exchanges
Problems in sustaining satisfying relationships
A lack of psychological awareness (see insight in psychology and psychiatry, egosyntonic)
Difficulty with empathy
Problems distinguishing the self from others (see narcissism and boundaries)
Hypersensitivity to any insults or imagined insults (see criticism and narcissists, narcissistic rage and narcissistic injury)
Vulnerability to shame rather than guilt
Haughty body language
Flattery towards people who admire and affirm them (narcissistic supply)
Detesting those who do not admire them (narcissistic abuse)
Using other people without considering the cost of doing so
Pretending to be more important than they really are
Bragging (subtly but persistently) and exaggerating their achievements
Claiming to be an "expert" at many things
Inability to view the world from the perspective of other people
Denial of remorse and gratitude
Yes, but there is also a long list of his good traits.
I'd still really like to spend some time hanging out with my best friend.
yes, a person can really be that evil without using an insanity plea for his defense.
lance armstrong has 100 million reasons ($) why he would cheat, lie, and bully others.
if he believes in survival of the fittest, if he partakes in hedonism, if he screwed an olsen twin, if he doesn't believe in an afterlife, i'd say his course of action was logical.
now he's like a cornered rat who has strategized his "redemption" through oprah.
He may have mental issues, who dont? But his actions are pure evil. He sold his soul and karma has arrived.
Okay, I get it. You're not ever coming. I'll stop.
Oh yes. The patterns are very obvious. Just as we know "Ventolin" is on the autistic spectrum, Lance unquestionably has
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder.
Lance is mentally ill. No balanced person could ever will themselves to be such a devious d-bag.
If he ever needs someone to be supportive and go with him to get help, he knows where he can always go to get it.
But I can't spend my life of LR. Analyzing it isn't going to help. Stuff like this make it worse. He's going to have to be the one to take the first step. He will always be welcome.
Can't remember which book it was, but it made a big deal about his not growing up with a good father figure. They speculated that the situation created his "me against the world" mentality.

I know what you mean of course. But I'm talking about not just a sickening self-obsession, but also a chemical imbalance at the root of it that really messes up his decision making process and subsequent actions. Something beyond the breath-taking narcissism. Maybe he's just a complete a@@hole, but there is a real possibility that he needs some serious psychiatric help.
He is certainly mentally ill.
There is clinically mentally ill...
And there is walking the streets, works in the next cubicle mentally ill.
75% of this nation will deal with a mental illness in their lifetime.

Nonviolent psychopath....in some people's eyes. Absolutely. However, there has not been a clear cut definition of what one is and some psychologists wrestle with what one is. There are some that suggest narcissisists (spelling?) and nonviolent psychopaths are extremely similar if not the same thing.
Mentally ill? The broken home suggestion is spot on. That's where MANY start. It is possible that many mental illnesses can be transferred by simple exposure to one that has one. So if his mother has depression, which is extremely possible in his younger years, then it could have been modeled to him and picked up by him. That's only an example though. If she had a cut throat survival personality, then there you go.
Other people may also suggest he has some sort of bipolar disorder as well and the endurance sports has kept the depression away. That is not at all impossible. I recommend you all read the book, "Runaway Mind" Good stuff for sure on how running inadvertently battled the author's biploar disorder through running until she could not run anymore due to injury. Boom...then the shit hit the fan.
It is also suggested that 33% of all depression cases are actually bipolar disorder and the people are on the wrong meds. Psychiatry is such an inexact science and ever more, most psychiatrists are more arrogant than good listeners. With that in mind, Suzie Hamilton went hypersexual and guess what is a major symptom of manic phases in bipolar disorder? There you go, she was very possibly on the wrong meds the whole time. Go figure.
I think that is a good point about the endurance sports keeping the depression/bipolar away. How many runners/athletes on here get depressed when they get injured/can't run? A lot I bet, even the casual runners/athletes. So that might have some relevance with Lance. I agree that something like 50-75% of Americans will have some sort of mental illness in their lives as well, but it could be that Lance's is clinical, as in severe, in need of therapy and meds. At least go to a psychiatrist, Lance.
i highly doubt it. i think he's incredibly smart, motivated, and competitive. i'm certainly not saying i condone what he did, but i can certainly understand it.
athletes of that caliber literally dedicate their lives to the sport, it's outright stupid not to understand that it will cloud your vision and morals. how do you grasp reality when you are training "on (his) bike, 6 hours a day", sleeping in a low oxygen tent, doing blood work and tests, watching your diet, etc, for decades? pretty easy to get tunnel vision and compromise your morals when every waking moment is focused on training. its not like this guy picked up the hobby and just started winning, he's been competing internationally since he was a teenager.
sadly, i think *most* people in endurance sports are doing the same thing, its just not everyone has both the smarts and the drive to get away with it the way he did. i think if he were truly mentally imbalanced, he would have slipped up. the fact that he was able to control so many people and so many opinions for so long only goes to show that he is totally sane, just morally compromised like most of the world's idiots.
He was as doped as all the rest and he won 7 times! No accidents, no illness totally obsessive. They can't give his jerseys to anyone because all the rest doped too. Why do people expect so much from athletes? Do you actually think that all the football players you watch each wkend are clean? Distance runners who close their last quarter faster than most US 10,000 runners can run for one all out! Hello! Sure, go ahead and keep believing. Lance was in the saddle 12 hrs a day, he worked harder than anyone else. It's not like he took EPO and partied instead of training. He is one tough guy and NOT my hero but you can't deny he was a better biker than anyone else. He also fought cancer harder than most of us could. Most people would have rolled over and died. Get off his ball.
