And where I can find a fast race to take a shot at it? Thanks! |

I know it was 7:37 held by Tim Broe, but I'm pretty sure Lagat took it down. |

Thinking about breaking the record means you're 67% there. Sport is mainly mental. Asking what the record is (7:32.43) puts you another 7% towards the record. After today alone you're 74% towards the AR. 4-6 months of training should easily put you close to the 26% of effort left to get to your goal. |

It's a weak record. You shouldn't have much trouble breaking it. |

that 7:32 is owned by lagat. oh, and is this andy bayer? why not just go for the world record? |

I wouldn't concern yourself with the exact record. Just go run it in 7 minutes and you should be fine. |

Not Andy - but someone who has legitimate shot at running sub-7:35 but not sure about sub-7:32 - that is moving |

You've got to start small. If you can run a 1000m race in 2:30, you are one third of the way there. If that is too hard, just run a 500m in 1:15. Run a 1000m at this pace once a week, then once every 6 days, every 5 days, and so on. Soon you will be able to do all 3 on the same day. Start slowly moving the race times closer and closer together, until you can do all 3 without stopping. Trust me, I'm a professional math guy. |

It's only moving 3 seconds faster than 7:35. I like what you said about having a legitimate shot, remember it's 67% mental. But the end of your statement is too negative. You just have to believe.

most good runners can run 100m in 15 secs - you just have to do it 30x in a row. See? All mental. |

holy shiite, i was thinking the WR couldn't be too far under 7:30, but jeez.... 1998 7:24.90 Daniel Komen (KEN) Budapest 1999 7:26.80 Haile Gebrselassie (ETH) Karlsruhe |

Please don't get me to do something foolish and attempt to run 2:27s. I will have my hands full running 2:30s - if I hit 2000 meters at 5:00 and am feeling pretty good - THEN maybe i push the pace. |

30x100m in 15s with 10s rest between for starters, then cut down the rest periods until they're eliminated?

Yes, this will work. It is a similar process to the training plan I outlined earlier, but with more of a sprinter focus. Really depends on the kind of runner you are. |
