That question has to come up now! A junior girl running times like what she just ran!
She's good for sub 9:40 2 miles, if not sub 9:35 by the time outdoors comes around.

That race was crazy. Is there a video of it? I hope she goes for more 1 mile 2 mile stuff this season..it's definitely working for her
few, if any, if you are talking about being the best in the state regardless of class.
I'm sure she'd beat a few small-class champions in several states, though.
State championships? Hardly any. Maybe a slow state race in Wyoming.
Funny how small states have divisions in track. Here in CA it's the best of the best. If you're talking top 3k/3200 runner in the state I'd say zero.

Hmm yes t94bell, there are several state 3200m championships in Wyo that have been won in 9:40's , however what you are forgetting is that these times are ran in Casper, Wyo at altitude. Mary Cain did have an awesome run , but the race was at or near sea level. Mary would be at ,maybe 10 flat if she were to run 3200m right now in Wyo., and those 9:4x.xx state champ times in Wyo would likely be low 9:30's at sea level.
So in other words the "slow" Wyoming state champion guys would beat her handily

She would win exactly zero. Most boys state races are tactical, and most of those guys would just sit and kick after letting little Mary do all the pacework. She'd be lucky not to end up in last place.
She would be about 300m behind most Div 1 winners...close to last...
Still slow times for state championships. If you run low 9:30s at the Washington state meet you're getting lapped.

NO...so that would mean winners are running in the 8:20s...
I think the lapping reference was for an indoor (200m / lap) event.
Regardless, she could certainly win many county / section level boys races but I don't have the patience to research how many Boys state meets she could win.
To add some value, Here are the Wyoming outdoor Class records for Boys 3200m:
Boys 3200 Meter Run 1A 9:52.81 1997 Norman Vigil - Little Snake River
Boys 3200 Meter Run 2A 9:38.85 5/20/2010 Caleb HerManyHorses - Wyoming Indian
Boys 3200 Meter Run 3A 9:41.44 1995 Call Holbrook - Star Valley
Boys 3200 Meter Run 4A 9:25.70 5/20/2010 Garrett Zans - Rock Springs
O/50. Try again.
So much hate, yo. She'd definitely win a few.
Her time would have won last year's Kentucky 1a state meet, seriously doubt she could have beat Jacob Thomson though even after winning the 1600 and 800.

You do know there's a difference between running to win and running to set records, right?
She would win the boys 3K in Hawaii, and be in the mix for the boys 1500 for sure

Uh Pierce Murphy was a Hawaii State Champ and is now a varsity member of CU's nationally rated cross country team. She wouldn't have been able to hang with him.
NM 1A and 2A for sure. Probably 3A most years, too.
Last year's Vermont Outdoor Track & Field Champs boys' winning 3K times:
Div. 1: 8:57.95 (2nd was 9:09.61)
Div. 2: 9:29.38
Div. 3/4: 10:01 and who cares about the hundredths at that pace
In 2011 the fastest State Champs time was 9:03. And keep in mind that these are outdoor times -- I don't think Vermont even has an indoor state championship, as many if not most of the distance types are busy skiing over the winter.
Cain could be competitive with the best Vermont boys in more years than not.
Cain ran a great race and a great time, but it would not have won even some dual meets in the high school league I ran in, let alone the state.
