You guys are kidding, right?
The reason people do triathlons is because they aren't good enough at one sport.
Alexander beating the Kenyans over the marathon and running 2.05 or less? Zero chance.

No, the requisite sex change would slow him down a good deal.
No doubt. But APPLES and ORANGES. Stop the men vs women.
mate I train with craig a few weeks a year, the answer is currently: NO. However, if he trained for the mara exclusively for the last 4 years say, he would have raced in the 2:15-17 range without a doubt. But he's fine the weight that he's at with the life that he lives as a pro ironman and not Australia's say 5th best marathoner....

You neeed to read the post more carefully. He asked if he could beat the ladies.
Absolutely he could.
Couple of reasons.
Firstly, 2:20 is not hard. When I was runnning 40 years ago, we had 8 guys in my club who could run it. The best at 2:11. 4 of the guys weren't even 20 years old. They didn't realize - like you apparently do - that is so hard.
Second. Its rare for a woman to run low 2:20. Sure a perfect day for one lady cut it up. But most run mid to high 20's.
If you want to understand how pedestrian marathon running truly is, go back to the days of Lisa O'Day, (Ondieki, etc)
She was a 400 hurdler who took up marathoning, and medaled on the world stage.
Of course a world class tri guy athelte could run 2:20. 2:20 is just not that hard.
Maik Petzold is a strong short distance triathlete, but not strong as Alexander. He has run 2:18 in Frankfurt, so I think Alexander could run 2:16 in the great old days.
Tim Don ran 28'56 in Bupa Great Manchester 10k run in 2010. Another man who could run 2:15/16 in a Marathon.
I think Brownlee and Gomez could definetely run 2:13/14, probably less in a fast course.

Exactly. When I was running all those years ago I never took tris to seriously. It was fringe.
Now I think its more than a viable alternateive to track and field, and better athletes are involved. Of course kenyans can't swim, so there's that opportunity too.
tri is a great sprot, and without a doubt there are athletes on the edge of international marathon class. As an aside, I think Rupp could be an outstanding cyclist. He'd climb better than a doped Pantani.
I don't know about Alexander, but de Castella thought that Greg Welch could run a marathon in 2:12.
He'd probably be DQ'd on account of being a man....just my two cents.

True. But as they seem to be comfortable with transgenders and cross dressers I think he could at least get to the finish line, maybe not the podium.

Any more fairytales that you would like to share with us?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe1a1wHxTyoDon't think that any triathlete can run a 2:11 marathon off triathlon training. Probably a few could, if the focused more on running.
One athlete did it his name is:Benjamin parades.
Wasn't a good swimmer, he never placed high in any triathlon i think.
Paredes was a runner who forayed into a duathlete, then back to running. Had a couple decent placings due to blazing bookend runs splits, but was not fast on the bike. Interesting that he got his 2nd place in the NY marathon after several years of training for duathlons. But clearly a runner before and after multisport.
He trained for duathlon the year he ran pr's
he competed in the 1994 Rotterdam marathon where he ran 2:10:40.
in 1990 he placed 3rd in the world short distance duathlon championships.
in 1992 he was even 2nd.
So, that he didn't place high in triathlon is true.
but in Duathlon he was one off the best. ( probably because off the running splits )
