Lol' ever notice how many pro cyclists have "asthma" requiring inhalers etc..

Vessey is a professional athlete. If she is given a prescription, she is supposed to make sure it does not contain banned substances, END OF STORY.
If she is irresponsible enough not to take this step, she has earned a ban, even if it was "an honest mistake".
USADA should not let this slide.

To be fair, extensive outdoor exercise is known to cause asthma under certain conditions. If cyclists are out on the roads for 3-4 hours a day in the winter, they probably really do have exercise induced asthma.
She should just become a Vegas Escort. She is younger and hotter than milf Snoozy Favor Hamilton.
What I find most interesting is that her coach, Rose Monday, was on the drug committee at USATF, and is widely known to be on top of this issue. How could Maggie not know what she was taking when her coach was one of the most knowledgeable in the business. It just doesn't pass the smell test. And by the way, didn't Maggie declare that she was retired?
If she was using it as a masking agent, there's no way in hell she wouldn't know it was banned. For one thing, Hope Solo got dinged for it this summer. So that raises the question: if she knew it was banned, which she would if she was using it as a masking agent, and she already had a legitimate prescription, which she did, why not just get a TUE?
I think the logical conclusion is that she's just not a very intelligent person.
You have it, her coach was on the Sports Medicine Committee Executive Committee and was an Active Athlete on the Anti-Doping committee of USATF: http://www.usatf.org/about/directory/info.asp?parent=Developmental+Group&group=Sports+Medicine+%26+Science+Committee
Then again, she's an idiot.
I do have to agee that maybe she's an idiot...or maybe we are the idiots.
June 30, 2012: She ran a 2:03.44 in the Oly Trials Finals
then a few weeks later on
July 22, 2012: She runs 2.5 sec faster(1:59.98) at Ninove;
Then five weeks later,
Sept 4, 2012, She runs an even faster 1:59.61 at Zagreb.
(oops, overdid it on that last one).
If google "Maggie Vessey pictures", you will see some scary pictures of her deformed face. Her jaw line is very typical of steroid user athletes.
No it isn't. I'm not particularly a fan (meaning I don't care, not that I dislike her), but let's not be total idiots.
Here is what a typical female steroid user looks like:

She made a very careless mistake. No way was this an attempt to cheat. This is a wake up call to her and all athletes to CHECK your Rx's BEFORE taking them.
I'm surprised those wackjob psycho anti-ped zealots that run Letsdope haven't given her a black page yet.

Slowest annual best in 4 years, I believe. Not close to her PB. If she decided to dope, she did a lousy job of it. Maybe she needs to get some of that Russian stuff.
PED Masking Agents
Diuretics: Spironolactone, Furosemide
Action: Dilutes steroid concentration in the urine.
Other actions of Spironolactone: Acceleration of the metabolic clearance rate of testosterone by an enhancement of the rate of peripheral conversion of testosterone to estradiol.
Interestingly, Spironolactone produces the metabolite canerone.
Spironolactone would be a truly terrible choice of masking agent. It's typically not prescribed to men because of its anti-androgenic properties.
LOL. i know of dozens of herbal diuretics that would have you pissing your kidneys out and wouldn't show up on test.
Unbelievable! I followed Santa Cruz Co. high school T&F in '99-'01 when Maggie was running for Soquel HS & Ale Barrientos was running for San Lorenzo Valley HS. Maggie had the same facial features then as she does now. So, I suppose it follows that she was dirty as a 16 year old!
Aldactone, which is also known as Spironolactone, is a diuretic that helps in hiding or masking the presence of anabolic steroids in the human body. It is used by bodybuilders, strength athletes, and other sportsmen to deliver dramatic on-field performances and yet remaining safe from doping tests.
The chemical structure of Aldactone is 17-hydroxy-7alpha-mercapto-3-oxo-17alpha- pregn-4-ene-21-carboxylic acid gamma-lactone acetate. It has the molecular weight of 416.5744 g/mol at base.
Action Mechanism
Aldactone helps in keeping a close check on the production of aldosterone besides having a minimizing effect on fluid retention. This means that it promotes enhanced muscle definition besides allowing its users to get a lean, muscular appearance.
In addition to that, Aldactone inhibits androgenic side effects from occurrence after the end of a steroid cycle.
"It is interesting to note that Aldactone is also an antiandrogen since it reduces the androgen level. Female athletes take advantage of this characteristic by using it to mini-mize the virilization symptoms during steroid treatment or the symptoms after treatment."
