Better than volunteering...and if you want to actually be a coach it's a way to get real resume stuff depending on what they let them do. 60+hours of being outside enjoying athletics and driving vans doesn't sound all that bad... and it didn't state how part time it is, might be decent pay, no? Not to mention they've had at least 6 PT'ers and two volunteers go on to to get FT coaching gigs in the past 10yrs...
Allegheny College is looking for Sprints/Hurdle and Throws positions.

Any part time coach by law will not be required to work over 30 hours a week unless they are being offered benefits. This law is in the process of going through and will end the 60 hours a week theory for a part time assistant coach.
Now I realize as one hiring these assistants that they may choose to work more hours because I know I would bc of my love for the sport and wanting to be good. But the law is changing and will force programs to limit the amount of hours they require assistant coaches to work or just pay their benefits.
In the know.
Brandon Hon, FSU
BHon! He will be missed at Cincinnati. Fantastic coach, great guy. Best of luck to him.

This is like saying summer training isn't mandatory for your team.

I can see that working great if the team has a travel meet coming up.
"Yea, we are going to be on the road Thursday and get back sometime on Sunday, so don't show up to work at all the rest of the week, we don't want you over 30 hours" - Said no head coach ever.
Listen people.... If you want to be a college coach you do what ever it takes for several years to break into the ranks! That means several years of very low pay and working many many hours! If you truly love the sport and want to be a coach - you do whatever it takes. If you can't do this - don't even think about getting into this profession! This is what most coaches have gone through to get into the sport. I worked for 6 years making between $7K - $12K before I landed my first full time gig. Then the better pay and better jobs came... It is what it is. I knew this getting into it... I was so pumped to be a part of the coaching profession I was willing to sacrifice. I don't regret it in anyway... if you are going to whine and complain about it, do something else.
Looks like Norman ok. Will be getting an increase in population of Brits and Canadians. Bad for American students.
Rumor has it that Zach Glavash, who was hired at Illinois under Tonja at Illinois, is following her to Texas.
Thus Illinois now needs a new head Coach and a new women's XC Coach.

Not impressive. There's those who have sacrificed for much longer than you and still haven't gotten a promotion. If it's about "sacraficing" why did you accept the job you have making full time pay with perks? You knnow full well you haven't sacraficed as long as others have. Give up your salary right now. If not, don't lecture people who want to get payed better. Just take your check and enjoy.
Angry Benny -
If you have worked for 6+ yrs without a promotion, you have nobody but yourself to blame. It's quite clear you are not a "natural" however, six years of networking/working to become more skilled and connected, should most definitely yield a better situation.
This industry is tough and does favor who you know, however I believe the cream rises to the top and if you are truly talented and master your craft, you'll move up.
Keep working
