The Toledo job is one of those rare mid-major programs that is a national level job. I agree with Cross Hogg as it would be great to see the program continue to thrive. Kevin had his personal struggles that ultimately led to his downfall. Very few of us believe half the BS written about him but I hope he gets his life together regardless if he coaches again. He always made everyone laugh and was always quick to encourage me and other coaches.
The problem is that a 50% hit rate in this case is a very black mark. He fails to quash the drinking failures that, by itself could involve very serious (and legally serious) charges. Anyone thinking his actions on the personal relationship side are tolerable for him in his position is probably not objective enough. The supporters that came on here and attacked some of the runners did him a great disservice by making him look extremely petty; attacking the messenger in that situation is was a sign of complete bankruptcy on someone's part (not necessarily Hadsell's). To not understand how utterly irrelevant it was to the issues at hand was stunningly stupid).
Saw that FIU has an opening for an Assistant Coach, but it doesn't say what events they'll be coaching. Anybody know?
Directly from an administrator at Toledo, a longtime friend of the family, that he was cleared of any harassment and of having been in a relationship with an athlete. A check of his emails, computer and phone records revealed no communication while she was an athlete. This thread is not about rehashing his indiscretions. I know Kevin and nobody feels worse than he does. Those of us that know him and the whole story (not just from him) still recognize that he is a human being, capable of growth. And like the other coach eludes to, he was always quick with a laugh and encouragement so lets not condemn the guy to hell.

Travis Floeck is nothing but a gopher. His ability stops after creating low jack Runnerspace pages. He has no resume to speak of and it is an insult to utter his name in association with a real DI coaching position. He is nothing but a title holder at OSU, which is not doing much to speak of anyways.
Who pee'ed in your cheerios? Another petty Oregonian with an axe to grind? I do not have any connection to Floeck or Toledo (but do know plenty of petty, gossiping Oregonians), but whatever the truth is at Toledo, the reality is that this program is a disasterpiece at the moment. A lot of "real" DI coaches are not going near this position. Without track, the men will continue to "suck" (Kevin's own words if you heard him in front of the entire conference room at convention last December) and that women's program may need to hit the reset button. I don't doubt that Kevin was a very good coach in some ways who obviously built the program into the "real DI coaching position" it is today...but some of those "methods" used to build the current team dynamic of success with a certain type of athlete probably won't and shouldn't be used by the next coach. In some ways, the new coach is going to have to start over with what could still be a very toxic team atmosphere and rebuild trust on the recruiting trail...whatever the truth actually is. Perception is reality. Sure Floeck might not be the "name" you think "deserves" this "real DI coaching position," but a lot of "names" don't want anything to do with this. I could see this job going to someone on the outside (as another poster with insinuated "inside knowledge" suggested)who's paid their dues as a "gopher" or "title holder" (you have to start somewhere), doesn't have a big resume but is willing to take a risk. I do not have any "insider info," but this position is going to be a lot more challenging than just inheriting a women's mid-major power with strong recruiting classes and perennial national qualifiers and All-Americans. Best of luck to you though...
I don't want to keep this about Kevin. But exactly how do you know that the women he built the program with are not the type you want to keep recruiting. I Personally know a couple of the top women from their high school days and they are hard working, smart and well rounded with great parents. Those women talk incredibly highly of Kevin as do their parents. I think it is short minded for someone to believe a couple of disgruntled anonymous athletes on a gossip website.
I would like to see the discussion get back to coaching positions as this has veered off track.
Cross Hogg.... Discussing the Toledo Job seems to be what is MOSTLY being said (with only slight deviations by yourself and others)
The thread is still on topic as far as I'm concerned....valuable insight and discussion about an interesting job option in Toledo among others.
Any word on the situation at CAL? Seems as though Sandoval is not going anywhere as was previously stated...however, others are out. ??
I've heard that the Cal Director position is surprisingly low on the $$ side of things and not a desired spot.
Carry on...
What about masters record holder, Brian Pope? Doesn't he live in Oxford?
Agreed.
It amazes me, also, that a job like Cal would be so low on the pay scale. With all the money that University brings in through endowment alone one would think that they would make that job affordable for the coach to live in a place like Berkeley.
Once again, I am also curious as to what is going to happen at Central Michigan University. I try to be supportive through all of this but things do not look good at this point.
I think the most curious opening so far lately is the Mississippi situation.
Oxford is the home of Ole Miss. He won Carlsbad Masters one year didn't he?
Everything that Cross Hogg has stated about the Kevin Hadsell charges is true. The kids that were recruited and still run for Toledo have stayed and support the team and the program. The incoming recruits that were recruited by Hadsell and Fisher are still coming to Toledo. The athletes and parents of the athletes know the whole story and support the coaches and the program. No one has transferred out.I am amazed by the many so-called facts that people spew about a program they know nothing about. The type of athlete recruited by Toledo is and has been the serious ,hard working, and high in scholastic achievement.Check your facts.Everything I am writing is easily verified. As far as no-one wanting to touch that job with a 10 foot pole,I'm sorry your application was declined,Shadow Lurker..your name says it all.
Is it just me or is it a down year for jobs at the D1 level? Last year was crazy with all the big time jobs that opened up. This year there does not seem to be much. Very quiet.
A slow year?? wrote:

It's only June 5th. The season isn't even over!
That's like saying basketball coaching vacancies is quiet in January.
Keep waiting. Summer is always exciting.

A few years back Cal's athletic department was operating with many million dollar deficit. There were talks going on of them even dropping athletics altogether if not just dropping a number of sports. I never actually saw how they pulled out of it or what the final decision was. That being said though it makes perfect sense that they would try to pay track coaches as little as possible. I have also heard that UCLA pays terrible.
Here's a link with some stats about Cal's athletic deficit back in 2010:
http://www.jakestakeonsports.com/index.php/featured/cals-athletic-budget-woes-outlined-by-committee-and-we-translate-it-into-english/Also I think Cal sponsors like 29 varsity sports so that pie is getting sliced a lot more than some of these schools who do the minimum of 16.
Could the College station express be moving to Capital city?
FIU?
Word around Hayward Field is that Pat Henry is moving down the highway to Austin. If so, there will be some musical chairs this summer.

I definitely didn't intend to insult or question the athletes and families involved themselves but I can see how that came across based on how I worded it (poorly). I don't doubt that those women - past, present and future - have worked very hard to get the program where it is. I can appreciate the type of kid (and coach) it takes to do what Toledo has done. I can sympathize with disgruntled athletes on a witch hunt...we've all been there. However, whatever the truth is, this position isn't nearly as coveted as it would have been a year ago at this time...
Toledo has had glimpses of being good and even great last 2 years. HOwever, they weren't even MAC champions up until lastl couple years and Kevin was there a long time. Point is, Toledo is not some established juggernaut of a distance power. Kevin did a great job, I would say
He should've been doing it that's well sooner.
