And it has the lowest gun related crime rate in the civilized world.

Switzerland also requires every citizen to serve in the military at some point
strange that there are only 45 guns per 100 people in switzerland if the law requires everyone to own a gun.
maybe you have your facts wrong.
(note that the number in the US is about 88 guns per 100 people, roughly double that of switzerland and by far the highest in the world)
My brother and his family live in Switzerland. They don't have any guns.
They require every man to undergo military training, then each man is issued a gun after they have finished training.
soooooo, if every MAN is issued a gun, and the gun per capita is about 1/2, basically every household in Switzerland has one.
Some of the previous posters are not very good with comprehension.

Another fact: the U.S. is not Switzerland. Guns don't kill people, Americans kill people. The Swiss, not so much.
I would be happy to allow every American to be issued a gun AFTER serving in the military.
I live in Switzerland, but I don't have a gun. I do have a bomb shelter though.
You don't really have to do military service either, these days most people sick note out or do civil service instead.
Also, when you do military service and get your gun you still get into massive trouble if you open the sealed case with ammunition in it.
Switzerland still has just about the highest guhn murder rate in Western Europe.

Maybe you're an idiot?
I don't think that every ADULt is required to own a gun, do you?

Yeah, because people who have served in the military are known for having their shit together. No one I trust more with weapons than a bunch of Vietnam vets.

the culture needs to change.
just imagine a dystopia where the government is the only entity that possesses arms.

Can you, or someone else who also knows, explain this? Why do you get in big trouble for this?

Switzerland = White Paradise
USA = Black and Hispanics, Intelligent White males on massive amounts of SSRI's (Zoloft, Paxil, etc. etc. ).
Except almost one in four people in Switzerland is a foreigner, mostly from Albania or the Former Yugoslavia and lots and lots of Muslims. So don't play the racist game becuase Switzerland is more diverse than the USA.

Are there any firearm murder rates for the US broken down by demographics? I imagine a city like Chicago with a gang culture centered around gun violence massively skews the US numbers. By not accounting for the different locations and providing a single number for the entire US, a misleading picture is painted.
america does not let everyone join the military, if you have been diagnosed with a mental illness and/or have a psychiatric history, you cant join.
i know i tried to join a few times, the first time i told the truth about my psychiatric history and they said i cant join, then i went to other services, other recuiting stations and even years apart and lied and said i had no psychiatric history, but they found out.
now if i were a switzerland citizen, i would join in a second, because as nathan hale said the only regret one should have is having one life to give for their country.
i love the USA and like 300 million plus americans we are unified in our love of the USA and like nathan hale we would all gladly give our lives defending what is the greatest country in history, the united states od america, God bless america my home sweet home.
hale said the only regret one should have is having only one life to give for your country.

"To carry firearms in public or outdoors (and for an individual who is a member of the militia carrying a firearm other than his Army-issue personal weapons off-duty), a person must have a Waffentragschein (gun carrying permit), which in most cases is issued only to private citizens working in occupations such as security."
They have these guns, and are REQUIRED to keep them secure at home. They are not toys. You only take them out and load them when you are required to. When you are done, you return it.
People in the US think guns are toys. They wear them like jewellery, they play Rambo by keeping a loaded pistol by their beds at night. all of this is a fantasy which is encouraged by the gun manufacturers, no different than cigarettes and, "Marlboro Country". The US has been sold a bill of goods, and the costs is 30k people dead from homicide or suicide.
Go to Zurich and tell me what you see. School teachers carrying weapons? Tell me how many weapons you see on display. Virtually none. Go to a Swiss home, tell me how many guns you see.NONE. They are locked away, and NEVER taken out.
Despite all the talk of, "serious responsible gun owners" US gun owners are for the most part childish idiots. If this were not the case, the US would not have such a problem.
THIS is why the rest of the world thinks the US is populated by idiots. This should be an embarrassment, a national shame.

It's explained in the Wikipedia article that has been linked numerous times in this thread.
