BUMP!!!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. WATCH OUT FOR PETE WAREHAM. HE HAD EXTRA STRENGTH COFFEE TODAY.
Wow, not much interest in MIAC lately huh.
The two big guns would be Brian Saksa and Grant Wintheiser both of St. Olaf. Saksa ran 4:09 indoors, but got injured at conference. The hope was that it wasn't bad, but he's only run one race that I know of, a 4:01 1500. Guess we'll find out by tomorrow if he's back in form or not and has a chance to run a fast race at a last chance meet. He ran 3:51 last year.
Does anyone know if Wintheiser was injured too? He didn't run a lot indoors, and his 14:39 is disappointing considering the fact that he was third at XC nationals. Guys he beat by over a minute are now running well under 14:20. Is he in shape to do the same?
St. Olaf has a total of five runners qualified in the 1500 final heat with 12 runners total, including Saksa, and not including Grant Wintheiser who ran 3:55 last year. Pretty impressive. Only one is a senior, so they should really be something to watch in XC this fall.
Additionally they're stacked in the 5000 with Grant leading, then:
Grant Wintheiser, So St. Olaf 14:39.75
Calvin Lehn, Fr St. Olaf 15:09.57
Phillip Meyer, So St. Olaf 15:18.12 (already 2nd in the 10K)
Chris Massey, Sr St. Olaf 15:19.38
Tim Lillehaugen, Sr St. Olaf 15:24.30
John Christian, Jr St. Olaf 15:24.45
Plenty of other guys who will score in the top 8 I'm sure, but quite impressive depth for that school.
Also 10th in 10K,
Josh Wold, Sr, St. Olaf 33:13.00
Times are relatively slow, must be cold and rainy?

I haven't been out at the meet, but it's been consistently windy (20-25mph)here today.
Times were consistently slow thanks to 20+ mph winds throughout the meet. The first 800 of the 1500 was 2:25. Saksa closed in 55.x for the last 400 and 41.x for the last 300. The first 400 of the 800 was about 64. In the 5K a couple of Olaf guys traded the lead through the first mile and a half (running 73s and 74s), then Hart Hornor led for about 2K with Grant right behind him (running about 71s). Grant made his move for the win with 600 to go, and within 100 meters it was over.
Thanks for the info! Do you know what Grant's last lap was in? Wondering if he'll run a last chance meet to bring his time down, as the 14:39 may not guarantee him a spot.

St. Olaf is looking to be very strong next year. Their top four from last year are returning and are very strong runners. Heard a rumor that they are getting a pretty fast transfer too.
It is too bad for Olaf that the 4 x mile isn't an event at the national meet. They might be able to hang with UW-La Crosse if Wintheiser was in the mix--probably could dip into the 16:30s?
Have qualifiers been announced?
