Jim O'Brien, the head cross-country coach who has led the Arcadia HS boys XC team to 2 national championship in the past 3 years, was fired from Arcadia's track program by the head track coach at Arcadia. O'Brien will continue to coach the XC kids during track as "spring cross-country." It is reported that O'Brien did what he could in acting as professional as possible to resolve the issues, however, the head track coach had personal issues with the coach and would not allow O'Brien to stay on the track staff. When O'Brien was originally fired from the track team going into the 2001 track season (by the same head track coach) the track team went downhill. O'Brien would coach the distance kids only during xc and they would go into their xc season out of shape. When O'Brien pleaded the head track coach to let him join in 2005, the track team came back with multiple league championships.
It is clearly obvious the O'Brien is a great track and xc coach. I find this pretty ridiculous. O'Brien has led Arcadia to 8 straight California Div. 1 State Championships, the longest current streak in the state. He has won 2 state and 2 national championships, along with multiple CIF championship. Yet somehow this track coach still decides to fire O'Brien (arguably the best coach in the country)?
