Why were the times so slow compared to recent past. For instance the girls 6th place time was 35 seconds slower than the 6th place time just 5 years ago. Same with the men, very slow times this year.
Was the course changed? Was the wind that bad?

it was at VCP this year - that is a slow course. Usually it is somewhere else.

no.
Yes?
Temps were cold and it was windy. In fact there was snow flurries during the girls race. Big deal a little cold you say - well it has been in mid 50's for the last week or so in the NY metro area so the drop into the 40's and feel like 30's with wind chill had to be a shock to most runners. In the bosy race seemed that nobody really wanted to push it including Cheserek. He looked easy and jsut running to qualify and almost looked like others were waiting for him to go (at least thru just before the mile when they head into the woods).
Girls also did not look like anybody was willing to really go out for the lead.
But the course was the same as all the other times it was at VCP.
if you are comparing VCP to VCP from 5 yrs ago, the course has changed - due to construction they had to have different starts each year.
the 5k course is the same as it was years back

it was at VCP forever, moved away for just 2 years i think, now moved back. that's not "usually somewhere else"
So which is it, has the course changed in the last 5 years or not?
The start was moved slightly due to the sloppy ground conditions. Nearly the entire first mile of the course was pretty soggy, with patches of churned up mud. In addition, the wind was very bad for the second 800m of the race. The girls race may have seemed like someone was reluctant to take the lead, but the girls took off once they got out of sight in the woods.
Girls first mile which is just about entirely in the open field was a very slow 5:40. No one was willing to push the pace through the wind. Rocha sat until two miles then took off, left a pack of about 5 that held their place until the end.
The best runners were at Bowdoin Park for the real regionals.
Foot locker is on life support and someone should pull the plug.
that's not true at all
maybe the guys knew they couldn't run with Cheserek and all felt they can outkick each other. The girls field wasn't that deep and Leff was obviously not healthy. Or maybe it was just a bit cold and windy.

Agree - Foot Locker as a national event is very alive and well. If the administration of the Northeast region would get the word out about the meet and not depend on people finding entry info my accident the entry numbers would be up. The other three regions have very large numbers, the same could be done in the NE if they put the effort in

Would you just stop it with this constant in your face attempt to pump up NXN and discredit Foot Locker. We get this same b.s. from you each cross-country season.
There were very good runners at both events today. If it matters at all, the #1 rated boys runner in the country competed at Van Cortlandt and not Bowdoin today.

Jon Green 2nd15:36 stated afterwards that his goal was to Q, ran with Ches for 800m but wasnt going to cover any big move.
Green season has been historic, CMass Course record
held by Andy PowellFranklyn Sanchez 14:00 by 10 srconds
then Mass AS course record 15:29 at Northfield Mountain
besting Ryan Collins(AA-UVA- Wisc) by 20 seconds
If youre going to battle Cheserek, make it your last race
FL Nationals, why waste a close second at regionals, to have zip left for the BIG MEET. Wise move by him/coach
The Midwest races were pretty hard, hot and deep it seemed to me. That course is not particularly fast and was probably colder than the NE course was but not nearly as windy on Saturday was the previous several days.
It hasn't been run at VCP since 2008. Other races run at VCP in the past couple years have had different starts because there were huge sections of the park that were fenced off and being worked on.

I saw that. Is he just that much better at XC than track? Or did he have some problems after XC last year? He's obviously improved but last year he was killer in XC but not in track. His best track season was indoors with his 9:21. The way he's running XC wise you'd expect maybe sub 9. Anyone know about his season last year?
