There is no doubt that CBA is a quality program, but to say the JV winning the Meet of Champs is the greatest team performance in HS XC history brings up the following question.
Is CBA that good or is the rest of NJ not very good?

recruiting?
Considering they have set team average records at some of the largest and most historic races in the country I am going to say they are that good. It isn't surprising that a team that fast has depth behind their 7th man. Number 8-10 on that team want to be the number 6 and 7 man and join them at NXNs, so they work hard and are just on the bubble behind the 7th man.
No way would they have gotten away with that crap in Illinois. They are very good. But the state of NJ is weak compared to other states.
Disagree completely. Year in and year out jersey is one of the top states in the country for scholastic distance running. Cba does recruit which helps, but no doubt they are that good

13 guys broke 16 and the top 5 teams all had averages under 16:40, which is pretty impressive on a course like Holmdel (the Van Cortlandt Park of NJ). And most of the really good teams/individuals were probably not going all out in anticipation of NXN and Foot Locker qualification tomorrow.
CBA is just that good. Their team average was 16:30. Last year, Westfield averaged 16:29 and went on to qualify for NXN. So, it is possible that CBA could actually sent two teams to NXN. That's nuts.

The Woodlands averaged 16:12 and 16:20 for their A and B teams at NXN South Regional.

No.
But CBA is a very good a very deep team.

They are very good, but not that good, in previous years they would not have won. And, they didn't exactly run a JV team, they sat out their top 5, but CBA's 6 and 7 runners are pretty good. With that said, it took balls to make the decision to sit their stars in such an important race.
The whole progression of sectionals-states-meet of champs was pushed back a week for NJ. This put MOC on the same day as regionals. They decided to make MOC on the wednesday 3 days before regionals. Because of this some of top runners didn't compete at MOC. So they weren't going up against some of the best runners in NJ but they did still beat a lot of good runners. They are that good to sit their top 5 and still win. NJ is very competitive in xc and the CBA times were pretty good considering the difficulty level of the Holmdel course.

This ^ is true all around.
NJ is always quite strong in XC. This year was an anomaly. And CBA recruits enough talent to fill several outstanding varsity level squads. Take a look at the track times of some of these "JV" runners. They'd all be #1s on most varsity squads out there.
NJ Dude: who has CBA ever recruited? Have you just heard they recruit, but can't name a single person? I ran there and I can tell you without a doubt, none of the guys that were on the top 7 when I was there knew about CBA XC coming in (except for #4 & #6 whose older brothers ran). Tell me one name out of the hundreds that have run there.
don bosco sat its best runners and would have beaten the B squad from cba if they had run. the win was impressive but not quite as impressive as some think.
How the hell do you recruit distance runners? They show up at schools and tell kids they want them? I'm pretty sure that would be a violation of any rules NJ has.

You give them tuition breaks and promise them the earth and sky?

Would you feel better if I used the word, "attract"? I am sorry if you and many of your friends are morons. That is not my fault. But every kid in NJ with any awareness of, and talent for, running by 7th or 8th grade knows CBA and lobbies his parents to go there. Their attracting class (note that I did not use the banned "recruiting" word) every year is not exactly a random sampling of typical incoming high school freshmen.
Again, sorry if you are too much of a moron to recognize this and were too much of a moron to know about CBA when it came time to enter high school.

don bosco ran all its guys
"recruit" "attract" whatever. soccer, cross country etc... Let's not be that naive, the good athletes in central NJ know about CBA's sports program and reputation as a good school. Yes many age group athletes are steered in their direction.
Don Bosco and CBA are both very good schools, why wouldn't any young kid not want to get the best academics and athletic experience?
