Well...do they?
Well...do they?
They don't know him because he chose to re-start all traditions on his arrival. He has done well with the XC team, and Foreys on the track.
There isn't hate, but just a general feeling of loss, as they don't feel any connection to the program anymore. It may as well be a different school's team
When You have a coach be there for 35 years, ALL the alumni were coached by that person. To then have a new guy come in, regardless of how the team performs, and completely disregard the previous coach and his traditions, means that the alumni have no reason to care about the program.
I don't believe it is ill feelings towards Coach Gibby personally, but more of a reaction to how the previous coach was let go....underhandedly by the current head coach - and an athletic administration that let it happen. Correct, with a coach that had been there for 35 years to just be dismissed, there are alot of alums who felt betrayed by it and have lost their connection to the program.
Congrats to the cross country team on advancing to NC's in cross. The head coach took a big ten championship in 2010 and has since buried it in the cellar of the Big Ten. This year in track won't be much better...
You realize that by posting 3 different times under the same name, we don't think that 3 different Michigan Alums are posting.
You basically posted a thought in post 1 and then the same thought in post 2 with a minor addition. Then you had the same thought from the previous 2 posts in post 3 and while dissing the Head Coach of outdoor track.
All I know is Appalachian State. Michigan is a joke. 80 of the highest paid, jivin' n shucking rappin do-rag wearin mofos can't beat a junior college. Big 10 football is joke, Michigan is a joke.
1) App St. is D1(or FCS according to NCAA), not a juco
2) Michigan would finish that season beating Tebow and the SEC Florida Gators in their bowl game
3) That was 5 years ago, give it a rest
4) Many Wolverines are successful NFL players so the only joke is the quality of your commentary
As an M-track alum and still has ties to te program, the dismissal of a 35 year coach was unfortunate. Alex Gibby is for Michigan. Everytime I see him, he wears Maize and Blue. He buys into the program. He would have never been hired if he was or is not.
Next point, a new coach after 35 years is going to do things differently, in any sport. Other M-track alums need to get over their anger and embrace the program.
Alex Gibby is proving that he is a good coach. So, 34 and 33 years ago, there was a new upstart head coach was also starting winning and was coaching up already talented runners. Whether Alex Gibby stays 30 more years may not be possible but if he stays 10 years, call it loyal.
To the jerk who things App State is better than Michigan in football, that was 2007 so live in the present. Stay tuned to the jerk; because Michigan will be replaying App State again next season. A repeat of history will be unlikely.
Go Blue!!
I felt very fortunate to be at Michigan when I was (mid-80's) and to know Coach Warhurst and the group of guys that were there. Ron always had an encouraging word for anyone willing to try. He was also brutally honest at times. He was a character that had an endless supply of intersting stories. He had weaknesses, just as we all do, but my life was changed for the better by the great experiences I had within the program.
I have trouble looking at LaPlante without feeling disgusted. He never belonged at Michigan. From the day he arrived on campus, I couldn't wait until RichRod left. The football team was lucky to get rid of him within 5 years. Unfortunately the nightmare continues for the track team. "Scum" is the only word that comes to mind when thinking of LaPlante.
I hold no ill will at all towards Gibby. He had nothing to do with what happened before he got there. The team seems to be running well. More importantly, when I've talked to guys on the team, including sprinters and field event folk, they all like him and respect what he's doing. It's true that he's done next to nothing to pull alumni into his program, but I can understand that when you follow an icon you need some space to create your own program's identity. I hope that eventually he will be able to integrate the great elements of the past into what he's doing.
It's not ALL about LaPlante. Gibby made some comments about Ronnie's training and recruiting after a few too many at Nationals his first year that got back to alums which didn't sit too well with them.
App State proved that they are better than Michigan. Those Wolverines took a pay cut when they went to the NFL. Clowns more interested in rap videos than in winning.
Live in the present. App State 1, michigan 0.
Also, remember that genius "fab five" Webber calling time -out? Typical. Prolly thinkin bout his bitches n bling.

Was Michigan men tearing it up in XC and bringing in big recruits the last few years for Ronnie?
Totally forgot about the AppState a$$ whuppin in the "big house". Never laughed so hard. Who else is on the schedule? Vassar? Grosse Pointe High School?

That's not the point, even if it were true. 35 years including 2 Olympic medallists, multiple BIg 10 Championships, multiple National Champions earns you respect. Coming in and disrespecting the legacy of Warhust earned Gibby a lot of animosity.
Oh and the big recruits were Forys, Blacklaws, North. Check their HS stats...better than any recruits that have come in since.
Itty bitty Appalachian State? Where can I get that video? Priceless.
What? Is it getting too hard to beat those football powerhouses like Indiana every year? You have to schedule jucos now? What makes it even more pathetic is losing to them. Probably the lowest paid "student" on your team makes more than the Appalachian State head coach.
I guess it makes sense to schedule more cupcakes when real teams like Alabama smack your skulls. Big10 football is the most overrated entity in all sports.
Yeah... Tom Brady, Lamar Woodley, David Harris, Mario Manningham and Steve Breaston sure took a huge pay cut when they went to the NFL. Michigan started flat in '07 and finished strong. Ill accept one bad loss when Michigan has also won more games and won a higher percentage of games than any other team in DI football history. I hope Armanti Edwards doesn't get too many head injuries with the Panthers so he can remember the time he helped beat Michigan. Because his NFL career is going to fall far short of the Wolverines I mentioned above. It truly is sad that people (or one person with multiple handles) can only mention one game that happened before they reached puberty. It's like all those clowns in Gainesville that still smirk at Peyton Manning because he couldn't beat the Gators in college. Meanwhile, Manning has had a remarkable NFL career whereas Danny Wuerffel is the balding guy doing bank commercials in Alachua County. So by all means cling to the past... The rest of us will live in the present.
Wow. All those NFL studs, and they still lose to puny Appalachian State? I guess any team can win a thousand games if they schedule it right. Penn State vs Temple 50 straight years, big challange! ND vs Navy forever.
Like I said, they started flat. Props to App St. Michigan also got stomped by Oregon the following week. Then they won 9 of their next 11, with the losses coming due to an injured QB at the end of the season. Then they went to Orlando and beat an Urban Meyer coached Florida Gator team. Bad start, good finish. Unless you go/went to an SEC or Big 12 school you have no argument the school you went to is in a better football conference. But I here Michigan is looking is looking for a ball boy. Maybe they'll let you walk on for for that...
