Mammoth tc falling apart. Seems like almost everyone is leaving the group besides Josh Cox and Deena Kastor.
Looks like they're taking in new elites, but will they actually provide housing and stuff for athletes?
weird to see this all happen

And the Town of Mammoth Lakes is bankrupt. Something in the water there!
It's too soon to say if they are falling apart. They plan to rebuild with a new stable of runners.
It does sound like they are planning to rebuild based on something more like the McMillan or Zap model instead of a group of top athletes each with their own shoe contracts, which is how they originally worked.
Are there any "groups" that actually provide room and board besides Zap, Macmillan, and hansons?
OTC doesn't provide that much right?
Macmillan provides housing? I thought ZAP and Hansons were the only ones with housing.
Obviously all 3 of these have shoe deals. I imagine that Asics is the only company that Deena could bring in so that it is not a conflict with her current contract.
You would be shocked at how few athletes make a stipend and aren't just running for gear and bonuses!!!
A lot of crappy stuff happened this year- poor performances, arguments, athletes leaving plus the town going bankrupt... Its a real shame with the new track facility just completed. They are opening up to general membership but I imagine that is a case of doing whats necessary to keep the club up and running. I doubt it will be the high level elite group it used to be.
The good thing its new chance to start over , like the reorganization of a company. Get rid of the old start with the new.
Some of the better clubs in Europe have a great base of fee paying hobby joggers that build the base structure for the elites. They have a facility that works as the center piece for the club activity. Elites and joggers mix , its a good thing. If they build a solid base , add elites as they get stronger and secure support funds from outside resources they may have a shot at building a good model. They cannot depend on the city for cash support , its not there.
Setting up training camps for elites or country teams from around the world can bring revenue and build credibility. They cannot brand it for a shoe company as it may limit who comes.
Good luck to them.
So Cal guys can't deal with no medals from 2011 Deagu and 2012 London. As a result sponsors vacate quickly. UCLA replaced their staff a year ago. Stanford fired their entire coaching staff over the summer. MTC is undergoing reorg and will emerge stronger than ever especially with the talent pool in So Cal which has dominated Olympic, pro, college, and high school sports for over 100 years.
This is a sham. It is a simple exit strategy for Deena who knows that her days are numbered. They are attempting to make this a destination for camps. Andrew will continue to coach the locals but not one serious medal contender will make Mammoth their full time home. All of the press and the big announcement in New York was an attempt to try to persuade potential donors. The game is over.
House cleaning is normal business. Stanford shit canned coach after coach, Lannana, Gerard, Weir, McMahon, White, Evans, Floreal, Plummer...
What thread are you responding to? No coach was officially "canned" and this is not about college teams.
He is the "So Cal medals" dork. Stanford did not "can" Lananna and Floreal left for BIG MONEY at Kentucky.
I should have known. I thought he just lacked reading comprehension skills.
Glad I got a real job, as boring as it is. Getting fired in front a millions of runners like Art, Edrick, Vin, and Terrence can't be fun at all especially for your facebook page.
MTC is LA/SD based where medals are won. Terrence didn't keep up with the LA/SD tradition. It's as simple as that.
I believe that Stotan Racing now has housing. A good question, though. Other teams of this kind that provide housing?
Furman Elite, Housing and meals paid for.

That is awesome. Robert Gary is a great coach. Have they locked up a shoe deal yet?
These places are all a joke anyway. Athletes paying for their own housing and then paying for coaching and travel is hardly a support system. Begging the NYRR or Running USA for some sort of Grant in order to pay for anything is hardly a support system.
The only people making any money in these programs are the coaches. It is ridiculous and always guaranteed to fail as soon as the charity money runs out. And it always does.
