Today one of our athletes wanted to get on the treadmill and see how long they could hold 4 minute mile pace. (yes we have a treadmill that goes to 3:45 mile pace). We put the treadmill up to speed and then he started at the minute mark on the clock. He than proceeds to run for 4:31 seconds or 5:31 on the actual clock. So he ran a 4 minute mile and held on for another 31 seconds.
Now I know treadmills are easier. We did not add any elevation. There is no wind resistance either and it is a nice set pace. But the amount of time over that I felt negated some of those factors to a degree.
Background stats. This is his 3rd year of running ever. He is 20 years old. He has run 4:20 twice and 25:45 for XC.
Is it reasonable to say he can at least run a 4:10? Somebody give me some thoughts as I feel baffled by this.
