The 1500-3000K program (which I think you are doing) is really really hard if you are older. I'm doing it right now, as well and I'm 10+ years younger than you. I've found a 1600m race in December that I wanted to do and basically started preparing for it a month ago, borrowing workouts from each phase (in order of course) until I got to the goal race week. I'm only doing Q1's and Q2's...and utilizing his long run 25%-27% rule.
I have been able to complete a majority of the workouts, but had to drop out of one that asked me to do 6x200 F Pace at the end of 3x400 R, 3x800 R. I got to 4 reps at :30, :30, :32, :31..and my body just told me to STOP. The workouts are deceptively hard at times.
Are you trying to get through EVERY workout despite how awful you are feeling?
