Kemboi is untouchable!
The article is interesting as it says Kemboi was surprised and was waiting for the court proceedings to begin. That makes me believe that money might not actually have exchanged hands like the woman complains.
Ms Njeri Otieno said:
"I want to go back to university to pursue journalism and I have forgiven Kemboi out of my own free will," Reuters news agency quotes her as saying outside court.
"I have not been compensated whatsoever but I've just decided to forgive him."
Your thoughts?
She lied. He was set up. She was hoping for a payout to go away. she didn't get it and it was about to go to court. She backed down. End of story.
Would like to see her prosecuted, but not sure that will happen.

Ummm...how exactly is "I have forgiven Kemboi out of my own free will...I have not been compensated whatsoever but I've just decided to forgive him." a complaint?

And you know this how again?
The whole situation is completely nebulous. The guardian summed it up nicely in July: "In Kenya, nothing is straightforward" (http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/jul/16/london-2012-kenya-runners-gold-disarray)
The whole thing, taken at face value, makes so little sens that i think there's key information we are missing.
I'm half joking here, but I wouldn't be surprised if the woman's father has more cattle or land than he did before.
Remember, this is the same country that kicked out foreign coaches because they are all out to get the athletes and make up stories about doping.
Was in Iten at the time of the allegations, the woman is said to be from a tribe notorious for extortion and money related blackmail.
Nobody thought the charge would hold up, or that the incident actually took place.

If you were here, you would know the name of the tribe. Which?

Seriously,
How would this local know which one (tribe) it is?
Called it when this first happened. Somehow this woman and her family ended up with Kemboi's wallet and passport after he attacked her? Hmm.

It was the Slapahoe tribe.
I believe she is a Kikuku - he biggest tribe in Kenya. To say all Kikukus are likely to try to extort money is ridiculous. Thats not to say that some people in Iten didnt think and say that but it doesnt make it true!
I was in iten also the day this happened. I thought is curious that the woman's family on KTV stated that they could prove that the woman was acosted and was not trying to rob Kemboi by producing his wallet that fell out during the struggle....
I thought that might have proved that they did try to rob him...because they had his wallet!!!
I wasn't an eyewitness to the events so I can only go by what I heard. But these athletes are constant targets for underhanded tactics.
The bottom line is Kemboi should have never been in a bar at midnight in Eldoret...hopefully lesson learned.
Every champion in Kenya is getting shaken down by women for money. This very sad.

Nor does it make it likely, or in any way relevant.
I don't think I'll be letting my daughter date ol' Ezekiel. Interesting how many readers presume he's been set up. Classic "blame the victim".

That is the most accurate, even if what she was accusing was true and she could easily won the court date, she would have been so alienated that her life would have been over just for doing such a thing to a hero of the country.
