KEWL!
congratulations Chris, Well deserved!
Will he be staying at Stanford to train?
LOL?
I wonder if he'll be at NXN. I would imagine so considering he won the race his senior year.

Big f'in' deal! What does he get? A free pair of shoes and out of pocket expense when he competes? A contract from Nike, for the garden variety runner, is a joke.
Most o these guys, especially the Stanford types who tend to have intellects, should be forging a career that will actually pay them over the long term.

My bets are on Schumacher's group as well - having Solinsky (when healthy), Jager, Fernandez, Tegenkamp, and probably a couple other big names i'm forgetting about - to train with will be a huge plus for him.
That being said, Derrick just seems like the perfect match to train with Rupp; both have very similar strengths.

He has a post graduate scholarship. hell still do grad school. Why not run and get paid? He probably will sign for more than he would make in a real job fresh out of school. Gets sweet benefits such as worldwide travel etc.

Phil Knight is a Stanford MBA alum.
I expect him to go with Schumacher, but I really wish he would join Rupp and Farah. I think he would just end up a better runner with Salazar than Schumacher.
I know most people consider him a 10k type, but he's run decent 5ks as well and has been just barely short on the kick, but still been able to hang with him. So I think that with Salazar building his guys finishing speed it would help CD.
I would definitely run with Rupp and Salazar were it me doing the choosing.
that's because you'd like to be in the ice tub when mo farah and galen are touching each other's ticklespots.
I hope he goes to Salazar
Derrick's approach, if you listen to interviews with his HS coach, his college coach, and him, seems to focus on moderation and many small improvements, consistently, over time. That more closely mimics Rupp's rise than the careers of the Schumaker crew.
That said, would Salazar take Derrick on? He already has Farah, Rupp, Centro, Ritz; world or Olympic medalists one and all. What event would Alberto see Derrick in as a world class contender? 10k? He has the PRs given his age, but his closing speed will take some developing, but now is about the time Rupp developed his, and it's not like Derrick lacks the top end speed. Half or full marathon? Maybe, but Alberto seems to have the most success on on the track.
Just a hunch, but I don't think Derrick will end up with Salazar or Schumaker.
Schumacher doesn't neglect speed, though. Look at Jager, look at Solinsky closing that 10k in 1:56.
anyone know what he's doing graduate work in? he is a very smart kid, and it seems like it is almost a waste for him to focus on running even though he's a 27:30 guy.
Is it a prerequisite that you have to be with Kimbia to be with Schumacher? I don't believe Derrick is with Kimbia.
