YEAH! He should really stop enjoying himself! Somebody should do something.
Can we petition to pass a law to ban running and drinking beer?

We've gotten MADD. Now it's time to get MADR! Mothers Against Drunk Runners
All Nick needs to do is sign a Hash House Harriers disclaimer.
I can hurt myself, if I want too!
signed: Nick Symmonds
If this is your idea of "madness" then you've lived a very sheltered life.
I think he should worry most about making sure he finishes all 12 ounces before taking off around the track. Most of his beer cans sounded pretty heavy when they hit the ground last time.
I've usually seen the turn-upside-down-over-the-head rule used in such races.

Maybe he's making room for the HHH logo on his singlet.
I guess Duane Solomon hopes the madness doesn't end any time soon.

I was present, and I can confirm this.

you think a beer mile now is going to make solomon more likely to beat him next june? or more importantly next august?
solomon may very well beat him because hes unbelievably talented and works hard but symmonds mindset has got him from a D3 guy to 1:42, no reason to change anything now
The problem is that Nick seems to have changed something. Don't recall Coe, Ovett, Cram, Gray running beer miles.
The whole Nick Symmonds thing that bothers me the most is that I feel he's losing his true passion for running. All this social media stuff, advertising himself I think is taking away from his focus. I'll be the first to say I think track and field athletes are grossly under paid and deserve many more sponsors than they are currently getting. However, I read in an interview after the Olympics, Symmonds said something like him and Duane brought a great "product" to the olympic final. I'm not sure I agree with him referring to a race that way.
Seems like Symmonds might be getting a little too caught up in propaganda instead of trying to challenge the american 800m record which is the next logical step for him.

I fail to see the issue though. He's a poster boy. Single, good looking and one of the fastest in the world. He's constantly running America's fastest (or 2nd fastest) times in the 800, and all of this media relations show that he is smart. The fact that he actually responds (himself) to his facebook fans shows a lot of personality about the guy.

That was pre internet era, you would never know if they did or not. All of those guys definitly drank and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they did one at some point in their off season.
I think the French group MERDE - Mothers Emphasize Running Drunk is Evil - is apropos.

How many of them had a Bud Light 6 figure sponsorship deal?
Nick is looking for that kind of deal.
Not that this is relevant at all really, but I just came across this story, and I won't lie, it made me think a little less of Nick:

.
Oh well, he is a good runner, though. I still wanna see him take down Gray's 800M AR.
