This yoga stuff. What's the deal here? Anyone tried it? If Rudisha does it.. there must be something in there.
Flexibility --> Strength --> Speed
If she said anything other than genetics, it's the same fallacy that's been repeated by every wishful thinker who ever touched the subject.

Exactly how does Flexibility lead to strength? If so, we'd have contortionists winning mid D... I know this is stupid. Just trying to keep par.
Yoga isn't about flexibility. It's strength based.
It isn't all you need. Same benefits as stretching and form drills in general. If you can get better range of motion how would it NOT make you (even marginally) faster, or less susceptible to injury.
Who is to say that a contortionist wouldn't be a good runner if they trained?
Are you seriously disputing this? You don't think flexible strength plays a huge role in running form?

nope in fact it plays almost no role whatsoever

Kenyans are the hardest working athletes on the planet. Their work ethic is incredible. I think Rupp for example is more talented than a lot of these athletes. They just work that much harder.
Thanks a lot for this link!
Actually most of the research suggest that too much flexibility is a hindrance to running efficiency.

Your statement is an absurd generalization. Plenty of non-Kenyan athletes work brutally hand and to suggest otherwise is demeaning to them.

Me either. Range of motion should be functional. Hypermobility is a disadvantage because the muscles don't naturally tense during the normal range of motion.

"Too much" of anything is by definition a hindrance.
Bad Wigins

Yup, "hyper"-mobility is a disadvantage, no doubt about it.
Flexibility work is helpful for those who don't have any. If you have flexibility, becoming more flexible might not help. And beyond a certain amount, more flexibility is definitely harmful.
Breathlessly awaiting the next genius observation.

Rupp isn't more talented than the Kenyans. He dopes. And so he can run with them. They probably dope, too. Anybody who disputes it is just lying to themselves.
OK, I'll bite.
Who is Ted and why is he talking about Kenyans?
Veerryyyyyy Funnnyyyy. I know you know about TED.....Technology Entertainment Design. I am a huge fan of this site actually. If you are at all interested in physics, astronomy, cosmology, time travel, etc, then you should visit this site. So many good talks on this site concerning these topics.
TED talks are nothing but a money soaked orgy of self-congratulatory futurism.
and they're awesome

What did he have to say about yoga, yogurt, Yogi Berra?
Loved this talk. Even anyone has funding out there, this would be such an amazing plot for the greatest running documentary ever made.
