Im an occasional reader and first time poster.
Situation - Ive bet $1000 that I can run a sub 11 second 100m. I have 1 year to do it
About Me - 36 yrs old with bad hamstrings. Ive not ran a serious 100m since 13/14 yrs old. Last 100m of any type I ran was a couple of years ago when I was challenged by the 13 yr old champion of the school I was coaching (soccer) at. I ran a hand timed 12.3? on a grass track in tennis shoes. I hit the wall at 60m and the last 40 was agony (as was the next few days.) I jumped 15.30+ in triple jump when I was 15 yrs but after that I age I stopped doing track and field to concentrate on other sports. Im 6'1", 220 lbs and play wing in rugby.
Now, I dont for a second claim that I will be able to do this but Id like to give it a serious go to see how close I can get. Half of me thinks that I am stupid to attempt this but the other part thinks I have a chance.
Any advice? Can I self train or will I get a lot more benefit from working with a coach? Am I dumb for taking the bet?
