No where close to a course record. Sydney Maree ran faster than the world record twenty years ago. Still a great showing though.

maree ran 3'47.52
coe had just set track wr of 3'47.33
anyhows, it showed how good maree was ( he ended up few years later with 3'29.77 on tired legs )

define tired legs
They only issue with the course measurement back in the late 70's and early 80's was where along the road the course was measured. Cones and barriers were not used to delineate the measured course. The methodolgy used then was just as accurate as today.
Plus, obviously the 5th Ave mile is a straight line - no issue about where to measure.
Great persistence by Gabriele Anderson, Anna Pierce and especially Brenda Martinez who all really hung in there this year after not going to London.

Legs that are tired.
According to Levins' twitter the race was tough for him but he's healthy again and is just getting back into hard training
