The poster you replied is discussing stock "gain" not stock "price."
APPL One year ago: $304
Today as of 11:30a eastern: $695
If that math is too much for you, $695 is more than DOUBLE $304.
Last year it took 22 hours for iPhone 4 pre-orders to stock out. This year it took less than an hour.
Stock is up $39.86 (6.1%) from Wednesday's low, the day iPhone 5 was announced.
Time to short it and make a killing!
The math shows the collective faith more than doubled. It's a measure of supply and demand based on fear and faith. What's your point?

If this is the end of their dominance, the downhill will be long and a relatively easy slope.
Also, some of the experts tend to disagree with predictions of a downward trend. Much of the data indicates that Apple (even if done with innovation) may just be hitting their stride in the business model.
(just read)
Also, Apple appear to be the only handset maker that actually generates profit

The AAPL P/E ratio has been fairly consistent since 2009. It appears that the "faith and fear" has remained relatively constant - it's just Apple's actual earnings that have more than doubled.
So should I buy some Apple stock now?
In addition to the steady PE, you are now generating dividend returns. The dividend is almost exactly what I paid for my AAPL back in 2001.

48 of 55 analysts have AAPL as a Buy to a Strong Buy. Only 2 of the 55 have it as a Sell or Underperform.

You ain't kidding.
I wonder if it really will sell as well as they say. Iphone5 is not that good and I also wonder if they screwed up with the 4s and many people moved to the Samsung Galaxy S already. I have an Android that has a bigger screen and wouldn't switch to a more expensive Iphone.

In the first quarter of availability of the iPhone 4S, Apple sold 37 million iPhones. It was a 128% jump from the iPhones sold during the year-ago quarter.
It also topped the previous record for iPhone sales of 20.34 million units sold during 2011’s third quarter by over 80%.
Some screw up they had with the 4S. I can only hope for a similar screw up from the iPhone 5.

One more thing, Apple is creating a gateway into business computers with their Iphones/Ipads. PC makers should be very worried.
Thanks for that! It's always nice to end the work week with a good laugh.
we don't need any of these things, but as long as a good many are convinced we do, they'll keep selling.
i need my phone to make and receive calls, make and receive texts...pictures, internet, i guess that's a bonus...a map is nice in a pinch but they make those out of paper too.

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung shipped 50.5 million units in its second quarter — the largest number of shipments ever made by a smartphone manufacturer in a quarter — and occupied about 35% of the global market. Meanwhile, Apple shipped about 26 million units during the quarter (about 18% market share).
Samsung’s second quarter was a knockout for the company. It reported a record $5.86 billion quarterly profit, up 79% from the same period last year due largely to a strong performance in Galaxy S smartphone sales.
Sorry AAPL guy you be tripping and Apple be slipping

I didn't know these things were mutually exclusive from owning a smart phone.

Apple won't dominate forever. Anyone who has been around technology for awhile realizes this. In the late 1980s - early 1990s, IBM made and sold more PCs than anyone. Just a few short years later they were an also-ran.
The market can change dramatically and shortly. Apple fans tend to ignore some of the obvious (like drastic problems with some Apple laptop products that can't hold a wifi signal). I don't expect Apple to keep their edge without Jobs, but they're going to hang on for many years based solely on current product lines, and fanboy types who are convinced Apple can do no wrong despite evidence to the contrary.

We're talking about AAPL stock value, so let's look at profit share.
In a down quarter due to the anticipated release of the iPhone 5, AAPL had a 71% profit share of all smart phone sales.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2012/09/08/fascinating-number-apple-takes-71-of-all-smartphone-profits/I'm not trying to force anything on anyone. Don't like Apple - that's fine. I'm simply advising a strong buy on AAPL, and advising strongly against shorting AAPL out of spite.
