Heard from a close friend that he is calling it quits. Announcement to come any day.

I remember him saying how it was getting harder and harder to train and race at a high level now that he is over 30.
no, the word on the street is that he will be running a fall marathon. probably Grandma
That's dumb of him he has at least 2-3 more years left in him
he is 8 years younger than Lagat.
Now that he's getting beat regularly by US runners he's calling it quits. Sounds like a QUITTER to me.
On the flip side - he's been running for better part of 2 decades. Maybe he just wants to move on.

Yeah sounds like he's just tired of the grind
I hope he tries a marathon first, I'd like to at least see that.
Hard to see any of this being true....He is runningt he New Haven 20K Monday. Not exactly Andy Roddick style. I would say he would have a good marathon in him.
IF this is true, that is. This would be an easy way to troll.
It's still weird to think that just 3 years ago he ran 12:58.
Just 3 years ago, he ran a 53 last lap to beat Solinsky in the 5000m of the US champs.
3 years ago he made it to the world final of the 5000m, but I have no idea why he couldn't deliver there.
Then just two years later he's moved up to the 10k and a total non-factor.
I think he should go back to the 5k.

"New challenge with the #USA20kChamps n New Haven on Monday! Looking forward 2 running roads against a great field."
He's not retiring in the immediate future.
this is a troll thread!
In the past year or so it doesn't seem like his heart is totally into it. He seems to be a smart person who has a life outside of running. He has a couple of kids as well does he not? Maybe he feels it is time to move on to other things. On the other hand he is still in a position to run and get paid for it. It wouldn't surprise me either way if he quit or ran for another 5 years.

i'm 34 and just won og gold. what the hell teg???!!!
He should retire from the track and become a road w*hore.
I was thinking about Teg and Solinsky the other day when I saw that Solinsky was now coaching in college.
My first thought was - i wonder if he and Teg are going to have some huge contract rollbacks in the coming years.
I don't know how the contracts work exactly but can imagine they are do for some serious rollbacks.
I imagine these guys were making six figures easily. If suddenly, you are 30+ and making $20k, it might be hard to be motivated.
Anyone have any idea on if the contracts would end in an Olympic year or the year after? What type of rollback could one expect?

For some that would motivate them even more.

It's interesting how this is the exact race that had Ryan Hall begin to run the longer distances.
