Actually, quite the opposite. Ryan should know that his spiritual gift for prophecy is on display and it is God's will, not Ryan's, to determine what role a moment like this might have on future events. To build trust you must be vulnerable, right? I believe it's possible that God made Ryan weak on the biggest stage for a reason. How many of you have failed to achieve your life's biggest dream [sometimes in terrible ways like this] only to find meaning it all later on?
"To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some..Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize." --1 Corinthians 9:22-27
All said, I too respect Meb, or anyone, continuing on if possible with injury to avoid a DNF. I would have much preferred to see Ryan grind it out and be truly humbled in an agony of defeat that most of us can better relate to.
