Bummed out
Anyone else starting to get a little sad as the Olympics draw to a close? 8/10/2012 8:02AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Kinda depressing...4 year wait, 17 days and poof! It's over...

What will I do for 8 hours a day now? Back to playing call of duty in the basement, I guess.

Yes, its is really only like a week for running. The 10k finals were Saturday night and the marathon is Sunday morning.

Yes, the best track meet in the world comes and goes in 7 days, and it flies by. It's been a welcomed oasis to the sports doldrums of mid-summer. Now if only I could have seen more of it live.

What really bums me out is that the Olympics seems to be way too long for most people. Most of my coworkers and relatives have quit watching this week. They just have had enough after the swim races and gymnastics.

Now that it's track (and diving, which goes on freaking forever), they just are done with sports for now. It'll be interesting to see if the viewership numbers are still high this week, because my informal poll shows that many people are already burned out.

Yes very bummed out. They should just do away with the world championships and have the Olympics every 2 or 3 years. The Olympics is still the event that brings most of the world together for 2 weeks.
And I'm proud to be American!

I am. The hype of these Olympics drew me back into the track 'n' field fold, and our runners haven't disappointed. Hell, the entire event hasn't disappointed. It's been so damn exciting.

Top moments (not in order of importance):

-Usain doin' his thang.
-Allison Felix finally winning the big one, which she so deserves.
-Rupp getting the silver, and Mo winning in front of home crowd.
-David MF Rudisha.
-Leo "nip-licker" Manzano getting the silver *cough...gold*
-1 and 2 in Decathlon.
-Sanya Richards looking classy and being a champion.
-Usain telling the reporter to respect the U.S. National Anthem

(If you can't tell, I love when athletes are classy...)

Best track 'n' field olympics ever?!? Best I've seen. '96 was good, too.

USA...USA...USA... 'Murica... FVCK YEAH!

Despite running obviously being my main interest, I don’t know what your TV is broadcasting, but our BBC has given the Games blanket coverage on about 10 different options and I found myself watching with great interest sports I normally wouldn’t give the time of day for.
Like horses dancing to music, dressage they call it - of course that might have been because a British girl was winning the gold medal.
But even BMX bike races - great fun, thrills and spills, surprised no one has broken their neck yet.
And when I see what those Rhythmic Gymnastic girls can do with a ball….
I came across the Japanese girls playing the Chinese at volleyball.
They hadn’t beaten the Chinese for ten years and I was transfixed, willing for no good reason for the Japanese to win - and they did!
No - I’ll have withdrawal symptoms after it all ends on Sunday - the very day our bloody football season starts!
Summer’s over.

Summer Olympics is what the OP is referring to. Winter Olympics are great but Summer Olympics have sports that are more well known to the general public. Basketball,Soccer,Track&Field, etc etc

Actually, NO. Can't wait to get back to normalcy. Been spending way too much time with watching following, prediction contests, etc. Getting worn out.

We still have Diamond League to look forward to.

Men's 800m
Phelp's last race
Zonderland on the high bar (find that video right now if you haven't seen it)
Bolt
Men's team gymnastics
The Italians in the archery - Bullseye on the last arrow to win
Wiggins crushing the timetrial
Federer vs Del Potro
Volleyball/handball - Just so entertaining to watch

I am actually not so sad that it is going away. I will miss T&F badly, but I will not miss watching prime time coverage of the judged events (diving, gymnastics etc.) where the NBC announcers squak like chickens everytime there is a deduction or a failed move. The competitors are so young and under so much pressure. It is like watching back to back episodes of toddlers and tiaras.

Not really, in my opinion, Beijing really stole London's thunder. I don't remember thinking as many people were on drugs back then, even if they might have been.

I had a tough time with these OGs - probably because of my own work issues forcing me to fast forward through hours of video.

Rupp and Rudisha were tremendous...but that 1500 will put a gray mist over everything. That was an awful experience. But if Leo gets the gold it will do some redeeming.

I didn't get swept up by other sports, except maybe some volleyball, indoors and out.

Overall it was a good games, but the summer games are just to big to have a job and see them on tv. Winter is much more manageable.
