Both now aged 32, both ran 13:47 in their heat and failed to qualify for the 5k final.Surely retirement is imminent?

I could see Mottram retiring, but I think Cragg will move to the roads, as he's found new life in his training, moving to Portland and training under Daniel Lincoln.

What else are they going to do? Alistair will continue to chase tail Uceny and now Hastings. You need to stay on the circuit for that to happen.`

Mottram said after his race that his focus would now be on the marathon.

Yes!! Why in the world would they retire when they could get paid to travel the world and run.
The "it's time to hang em up" crowd should just wither away.

He's built much like Clayton.

Screw that. Run until you lose the will to train. These guys know what they are doing. If the kids want their place at the starting line, they'll have to beat 'em to get it.

Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Cragg was awesome at Arkansas and will rise to new levels. I wish him the best.

I think if Cragg can get himself into the right environment he could still perform at the top level for another 2-3 years.
Some rumors of a link-up with Salazar could resurect his career on the track (perhaps 10km) for a couple of years and then move up to the marathon and be done by 37 or so..
He has been pretty unlucky with injuries and also his choice of coaches as a professional have not really worked to well for him...

Do triathlons offer more prize money than marathons?

I don't think Mottram is ready to commit to tri-training at this stage. Two years ago there was a belief with Athletics Australia that Mottram could medal in London triathlon. That ship has probably sailed....
