Someone on letsrun claimed that it would be impossible to run 100 miles a week, at 7 min/mile pace, on concrete, barefoot. Who can prove him wrong?

That's a damn stupid thing to do whether you wear shoes or not.

Concrete surface is irrelevant, and so is pace, with barefoot running. Anyone who does it all the time knows that. It's like challenging Yngwie Malmsteen to shred for 700 minutes in one week, he's not gonna tear up his fingers.

What is hard to do is run fast barefoot on a track. Way worse than concrete. Tartan is extremely high-friction and peels your skin off.

I can do it. My feet are well callused, and when I'm not running barefoot I'm running in Vibram Five Fingers. My mileage is typically around 70 but I can probably bump it for this occasion. How would I go about proving I did this challenge and when is the dead line.

Go completely barefoot, no vibram. Do you have a garmin? Log all the training and take a picture, that sounds good to me.
I can't imagine someone driving in a car or riding a bike for 100 miles in one week just to be a troll.

Why would anyone want to do something that stupid?
Barefoot running being the way to go and the be all end all in running is a scam. Guys like Chris McDougall are trying to make a career ($$$$) out of running barefoot. It's a fad that's fading away. Ignore the hustle and the hype. Wear a light flexible running shoe.

There's no money to be made in a sport that requires no equipment. The only serious scams involved are the ones trying to sell equipment that simulates not being equipment.

It takes 2 or 3 years to transition. Most runners can't transition and give up. That doesn't make it a fad.

The only stupid thing about the challenge is doing 100 miles all at 7 minute pace, for no other reason than some anonymous joker thinks it can't be done. Barefoot runners do things people think are impossible all the time, we have no shortage of awestruck admirers already and are well past the point of needing to prove anything.

I guess I should rephrase myself by saying sub-7 pace, or an average of 7min pace.
The point is not to have an arbitrary number goal, it's to prove that barefoot running can still be fast and get in some quality training.
In this case under 7 would be sufficient to prove that, and I agree.
It would be awesome if someone could prove that, because I for one believe there are people out there who already do it, or easily could do it barefoot.

What's wrong with making a career off of running barefoot? Ryan Hall and Dean Karnazas make a living off of running in shoes.

Burt, that guy Spooner says he occasionally runs 100 mile weeks. He runs decent times but not 100mpw good times. 2:50 marathon at best. I don't think all your miles need to be barefoot either, as long as you can race barefoot. I'd say 40-50 mpw barefoot is all you'd need and the rest could be in whatever shoes.

then it is a marathoners-only challenge, I guess.
