She sits back in 10th place with 150 to go and then blitzes the last 150 to barely take a spot in the 15000m semi by .05
Was she sleeping? My god, this is the Olympics.
She is lucky.

conserving energy, it's not luck, it's calculated
That is no way to conserve energy. She ran flat out from 150 out and barely made it. If you think qualifying by .05 is calculated, you are nuts. And sprinting a full out 150 is not the best way to conserve energy. At the same time, that kick was impressive and if she gets her head screwed on straight, she will be dangerous.
She's a sub 4 woman, was ranked number three in the world last year, and is a world champion...I'd say she already is dangerous.
She is dumb. She was lucky last year. she should be in steeple still. she won't medal.

I wasn't aware that the 15k was an Olympic event. I thought Simpson was a 1500m runner, no?

150m is far now?
She hung back for 1350m expanding nearly any energy, and you think a 150m kick is more draining?
Wow, that was an odd effort. Slow pace, yet she drops waaaay back, then hiccups twice in the final 400 when she should have been gaining on the leaders, then requires a serious fade by two others in order to qualify.
Not confidence-inspiring. Hopefully it's a little wake-up call for her.

A world champion who is not even ranked in the steeple
She's a miler as I put up here 1 yr before she won that gold
At least she has the speed to let her lay off, not like our GB guys who ran like idiots in the 1500m heats
Headcase
I actually predicted she would not make the semis. Now, I don't think she'll make the finals. The only event in which she has run a faster time since leaving college in the 800. She needs a new coach. Let's hope after the Olympics she realizes it.

I was in awe watching that race and I knew the outcome before watching it.
I wondered if she just couldn't handle the pressure of being a favorite, if she lost concentration, I don't know, Crazy. I hope she wakes up in the semis.

Your first prediction worked out so well, I'll definitely trust you on the second.
And who cares as to what "you" predicted? Just who in the hell made you King of Anything? What a card!
for a minute I though she was going to quit and start walking then out of no where she starts to run and somehow someway she makes it....unbelievable! It maybe the pressure again....hopefully she woke up! Go Jenny....Act like you BELONG!

This is exactly it, regardless of her World title last year.
I was surprised she didn't drop to the ground, crawl 10 meters, stagger, then sprint the last 150. She had the same look in her eyes as the NCAA cross race she tweaked out in.
very well said, sort of what I was trying to say....but much better.
regardless...go jenny

The drugs didn't begin to take effect until the last 150. Question answered.
I don't think she was holding back she looked pretty tired
