Before the race they said that the 10k is a little over 6.5 miles. How can they be so dumb?[/quote] Yep that was Al Michaels...what a dope. Hey Al, go back to Monday Night Football. |

Galen Rupp will go down as maybe the greatest American Distance runner in history. |

I thought Masback provided great insight and Tom Hammond's call of the last lap added to the excitement. |

Enough of Salazar!!!! Rupp and Farah ran the race!!! Ever hear about El G or Gebres coach? Leave it alone and give the athletes the credit they deserve! |

Bill Bowerman and Steve Prefontaine are smiling tonight, as well as all the Men of Oregon. |

I watched the race with my two elementary school-aged sons. All three of us were out of our chairs hollering on last lap. Normally my kids regard track as one of dad's old man obsessions but Mo and Galen just inspired a couple of new running fans today. Think of the impact on distance running in US and UK--millions of kids just watched one of their homeboys outkick the entire Ethiopian and Kenyan squads, including TWO Bekeles. |

Does anyone know if there is video of the race online yet? |

I'm so happy so many of us aren't so cynical that we can't enjoy great moments like this. This reminds me of the "good old days" of running when the medalists were from different nations and different continents. Let's enjoy it and not question it. |

Salazar ran one of the greatest races of all time at Boston(Duel in the Sun) and now he has coached one of the greatest races of all time! |

Havent seen such a magnificent display of athletic prowess since Bolt and Jordan pissing on the Jazz in the 90s. |

Masback is always knowledgeable - a bit unemotional and dry though. Hammond - I can't stand his calling of the race. Emotion seems fake, same stock comments recycled from at least 1992 if i recall. |

No, they are dreadful. Never mentioned when Rupp moved from fourth into third. Never mentioned when Rupp moved from third into second. Just kept telling us that Farah was winning. There was a lot going on behind him, you know. And Masback was a world-class runner; he should know better! |

I wish Rupp had been in Farah's hip pocket with 150 to go, I think he could have got him, maybe like he got Lagat. You just can't spot any of these guys 2 seconds with 400 to go. He should have moved into better postition down the final backstretch and let his momentum carry him home with whatever he had left. Easy for me to say. Great race by both to go 1-2. Kenya got crap. So much for winning everything from the 800 on up x 3. I agree that there are a lot of high school runners getting ready for fall cross country that saw that race and feel like they might have a chance to do what Rupp did someday with a lot of hard work. Hammond and Masback are boring. I can't imagine what the British announcers were saying but I'm sure they were much more descriptive, in the moment. In addition, I wish Hammond would stop reminding everyone who was suspended for cheating in the past. Gatlin was guilty, paid his penalty, hasn't been dq'd yet again. Geez. For those that are suspicious of illegal assistance; innocent until proven guilty. I remember Flojo in 87; smooth and soft but fast. Then in 88; like a rock and unbeatable. Was she protected and Big Ben thrown under the bus for doing the same thing? Today's athletes have bio-passports. Getting tougher to beat the system. Earlier question of whether Jamaica could beat the US in the 4 x 400: I called it on Merrit. I saw him pull up in Monaco and knew his season was over. Makes the US a little more vulnerable in the relay. However, I saw a real dog in Jamaica in one of the other heats. Should have been an embarrassment to their team. |

I suppose I have nothing meaningful to add, but I want to share the pride and joy. What a great outcome, and congratulations to both, as well as to Alberto, whom I have criticized. He had his guys ready for anything. When I got done screaming, I turned to a few friends at the bar and said that guy who just won a gold medal came out of a place that's a nation in name only, one of the poorest places on Earth, a place that would be entirely forgotten but for the fact it's a haven for pirates and terrorists. Tonight he stands on the podium after defeating the best athletes in the world.Let me know if you ever see that in equestrian or yachting. Tonight, lets all remember why we love this sport.Thank all of you, and thanks to Gaylen and Mo for absolutely thrilling me. |

Not sure if others viewed the 10k on the nbcsports link. It was a British feed, and it was excellent, hardly any "homer" calling and all focused on the event and not a bunch of other stuff. The replay of the entire day is, I think, without commercial interruption, so it is a real pleasure to watch events as they are happening (or did happen) and presented by announcers who not only understand track and field, but don't talk down to their audience. |

Mo Farah is a boss. Galen Rupp is a boss. Congrats to both of them. I watched it on a laptop computer of the running specialty store I work in (while on the clock) and everyone in the entire store was going nuts, even a bunch of soccer moms who had no idea who anyone was and probably knew less about running than Al Michaels. It was awesome. I agree that this brought some spirit and life back into American distance running. A truly entertaining race. Now we just have to wait to see Evan Jager go total beast mode in the 3k steeple. |
